Concept album w/ story is my favorite - much more enjoyable to listen to as a whole.

i like the ones where you can only find the concept by reading into it way too much.

W/O story...I don't want to understand it.

It depends on
1) How relevant, touching, or well executed the concept is 2) How the music holds up 3) How well the lyrics depict/represent the concept
I couldn't really chose one style over the other, because it's those three aforementioned things that make a good album (or a bad album), it's not whether or not there is a story. That being said, stories often make things more coherent.

it's dependent on quite a few variables. it really depends on how well the album is done.

I like concept albums a lot, but they don't necessarily have to have a story as long as songs have a smooth connection or you can hear the whole album in a fluent way.

Honestly, (as with others here) none of this is of the least concern to me when buying, or appreciating music.
I just don't think about music that way. There are all sorts of albums I love in my collection: concept, non-concet, prog, non-prog, etc. All that really matters is that I enjoy what I hear. Whether the songs are thematically linked or not is entirely beside the point. (It's almost like asking if I prefer albums with paintings or photos on the cover, or prefer groups whose names begin wih a T or an S -- it's an irrelevant distinction.)
Good lyrics, clever writing, a thought-provoking story or issue (or several) -- those are all icing on the cake, but the CAKE (the music) is the main course.
Mmmm... CAKE!

actually i almost prefer non-conceptials...
but there's always (almost?) some concept, or let me say... harmony...
Or maybe it's just that I know some concept albums that are irritating and maybe not so prog. I don't think that the progressiveness comes from conceptuality (u know what i mean... at least i hope that)

I could care less. Good music is good music, bad music is bad music, and whether the lyrics of the songs tie into each other or not doesn't make good music bad or bad music good.

I'm going to take the worst song off every Tull album and put it on a mix tape! That should be an amusing waste of a day.

assuming that the music is equally awesome for all three choices, I like an album with a story.

Some albums with a story are great and easy to follow while others are definitely too hard to understand. I voted w/o because I prefer to listen to a musical theme as opposed to a lyrical theme (if that makes sense!).

Non-concept albums usually have catchier and less contrived lyrics, most of my favorite albums have no concept

Concept without story, since it ties together the music better, provides inspired lyrics and yet avoids the forced music writing to pad the story that's seen on most concept albums with lyrics.
