Noob to the site that is; not the progressive scene (although I'm feeling a bit naive after seeing so many bands I had never heard of on here It's so nice that there is a place like this for fans like us who don't really have much discourse for discussion in the outside world. I am sick of getting blank stares from co-workers and family members when mentioning bands like Gentle Giant and Hawkwind hehe. I have already become aware of some music I never would have heard had I not discovered this site. I have always been a big fan of most of the "prog giants", i.e. Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, etc. and had dabbled a bit in Gentle Giant and King Crimson with no real success (though I did love KC's Red from the first listen; unfortunately I then bought LTIA, expecting a "Red Part Two", or Part .5 if you rather, and hated it because it was not at all similar to Red). Well after reading the wealth of great reviews I decided to give Gentle Giant, and the rest of the Crimson catalogue, a second, more open-minded listen. And I have had a second musical awakening (the first came when I was around 20 and just discovering prog). I have been listening to Larks' Tongues ceaselessy lately and have sampled some stuff from Starless and Bible Black, and I am in love! I then checked out Gentle Giant's Three Friends (I already had owned Octopus for years) and I gotta tell you, I have not been so infatuated with a song ("Prologue") in years. My point to this rambling is, well...this site is great and I can't believe it took me so long to find it. I finally have hundreds of musical kindred spirits. Peace. Ben2112 |

welcome Ben211 i thought that i would not fit in here as i ddin't know some of the bands nere but you get used to them i downlaod or get some of their music then i can post about them.

Yeah me too, all these weird esoteric fringe bands (Genesis, Yes, ELP, Crimson, Tull. etc) always muddy the waters. Actually on a serious point, I guess it's all relative as most of the bands that we consider mainstream on this site are (in reality) on the fringes of public consciousness in many parts of the world. ------------- I must remind the right honourable gentleman that a monologue is not a decision. - Clement Atlee, on Winston Churchill |

Velcome, friend! If you think Three Friends is a good album, just wait till you hear In a Glass House or Free Hand! "Getting" Gentle Giant is a big step in the right direction, trust me! Also, don't worry about being swamped by bands you've never heard of. Three years ago I hadn't even heard of Yes, and now I'm listening to some of the most ludicrously obscure bands imaginable! Enjoy your stay, ignore the idiots, and we'll soon make a hardcore progger out of you! |

But seriously though, thanks for the welcome guys. And sorry to say to some of you, I AM an ELP fan (not hardcore, though I love Lake's voice).
I have acquired Acquiring The Taste in the last couple of days and it is great too!
