I know, it's probably been done a few times but I'm on a bit of a Crimson kick right now and I'm curious about your fav's. I know it's going to be Court of the Crimson King or Red or perhaps Larks' Tongues, but I thought I'd give it a whirl anyway. My fav is Lizard simply because of the songwriting and the lack of the sometimes overload of senseless noodling that can plague the John Wetton era albums. Some of it is totally unlistenable, but I love and respect Crimson nonetheless. I think people are wayyy to hard on the Belew era Crimson so it would be nice to see the "red blue and yellow" albums get a few numero uno votes. We shall see. Thanks for voting.

I own Red, Discipline and Thrak. The latter seems like the Red trying to be as intricate as Discipline, and it just sounds messy. I love Red, but "Providence" is a bit too aimless for my taste. As such, the new wave-inflected Discipline gets my vote. Great album, that is!

Larks' Tongues, followed closely by Red and Lizard.

Red, because the good tracks far outweigh Providence. Plus, Providence is cool anyway.

In the Court followed by Larks, Red and Discipline. The order can change anytime...Discipline will never get the one spot though.

Dood! Red. The most powerful album ever.

In the court, Islands and Lizard, in that order. Then Red ( despite providence ) and Poseidon (first side only ). I don't give a dam about the rest.

LARKS TONGUES!
Closely followed by USA, THE GREAT DECEIVER and ABSENT LOVERS.

As far as studio albums are concerned, I consider Power to be their most solid, though I prefer their live stuff.

Absent Lovers usually comes out on top for me.

Lizard is where it's at. Jazz and King Crimson go together like... uh... like something that just go well together. It's a shame they didn't continue on the same road for at least another album.
The cover is a real joy to look at too. It reminds me of the fairy tale books I used to read as a kid. ^^

Larks' Tongues here.  One of my favorite albums period, perhaps only rivaled by Yes' Relayer.  I haven't heard a Crimso album I didn't like, but Larks' gets it for me mainly because it's so consistent, David Cross is on it, and there's a certain angularity to it--LTIA Part II is just awesome.  I find myself headbanging to it.LOL  I'd dare say it's among one of the most experimental albums Crimso ever did as well.

In the Court is great, but there's the Moonchild factor--I don't mind Moonchild, but it's not my favorite.  I actually really like Providence on Red, though.

My real intention was to vote for "Red"... but then I saw "Island" without any vote and I couldn't help but tick it! I love that album, its heart-breaking title track, Fripp's guitars and - why not - Boz Burrel's voice (honestly I like it better than Lake's one, it sounds more ironic).

The mellotron on "In The Court.." really draws me towards that one the most but... "Larks' Tongue In Aspic" , "Red" and "The Power To Believe" are all 5 star albums in my opinion.

It´s sad to see how "low" the ratings for the Crimson album are latetly. With the exception of Beat, Thrak and The construction of light no album should deserve less than 4 stars. Lizard has just 4 stars, Island 3.7!!!, Discipline does not reach the four stars with just 3.99. People are way to hard with the Crimsons for some reason. It would appear as they have only made three incredible albums and the rest is some what good, when we all know Crimson has one of the strongest album collections ever!  I guess it´s natural, as all albums are so divers, sometimes dramatically, that the mayority will not like them all... pitty

Ah, my vote goes to In the court by the way

Thank-you folks, this is a helpful exercise for me. Some of the things you've pointed out which I hadn't noticed is the greatness of the KC live albums. I've also started to listen to Starless and Bible Black a little more closely after one person declaring it his fav. I'm also rediscovering the melancholy brilliance of the song "Islands" thanks to one member. I'm not surprised that Red and Court are in the lead, but I was surprised by the srong showing of Power to Believe. Maybe I'll have to purchase that one. I don't understand the love for Larks' Tongue as it seems to be full of Fripp noodling which sounds grating but I'll have to give that another listen because I'm obviously missing something. Thank-you for your opinions. One thing a few mentioned was a love for KC album covers and I'm motivated to do another poll just on fav. KC album covers.

my personal favirote is Court. I really couldve chosen any of them though. I really like Starless and Islands. even only listen to the songs "islands" and "the night watch" on them. I really like the live album the Night Watch as well which i think is where they got a lot of material for Starless.

Will someone rescue poor lil' ol' "Beat?" C'mon folks, the blue album! Satori in Tangier and Neal and Jack and Me--great songs! How about Neurotica. Crimson King and Red in a dead heat. Which one will win or will Larks' Tongue creep up from behind? I'm happy with the votes Lizard is getting--it is a great album.

Red

But they're all quite good, really. I'm surprised there's little love for Discipline, it's an amazing album!

I almost voted for Discipline. I love every song on it, but all but one of them have superior versions on "Absent Lovers" and "Vrooom Vrooom", so I almost always choose the live versions over the studio, which is why Power ended up getting my vote.
