As for most impressive I think Senogul is the one, followed (not by order) by Grayceon, Oaksenham, Pax Cecili, Battles, *Shels and Gourishankar. Other were also  Aviva, Baroness, Minsk.

Other impressive efforts by somewhat older bands are by Shining, Little Atlas, Virgin Black, Phideaux, SGM, Mar De Robles, Oceansize....

Some fantastic albums this year. Looking forward to the next one!

The only band with which I'm familiar is Abigail's Ghost, and I was very underwhelmed by them.  I can't vote since I haven't heard any more.

not in the list:
The Reasoning - excellent Rock Prog in the Karnataka vein;
Immune - good modern prog, Radiohead meets Queen meets Talk Talk meets Jeff Buckley in an Indie/Post Rock kind of way.

I've discovered alot of bands this year and when talking about bands in PA there's been three that left a big impression on me:

Battles
Grayceon
The Pax Cecilia

I still need to listen to some more bands.

You are right.  They have 5 cd's released so far.  However, they are just now getting noticed.  I saw them with PT in KC.  They played their asses off.  Incredible!!  The dude played his guitar so hard all the strings broke.  My vote goes with these guys.  Great list of bands to choose from though!!  Clap
