I noticed that M@x limited the height of signature images to 160px ... that's very, very bad for all people who use last.fm/ratingfreak.com signatures or any other signature image which contains text. The text is distorted and barely readable once the image height exceeds 160px.

I would suggest that the maximum signature image height is limited to 200px, if it must be limited at all. Personally I think it makes much more sense to limit the signature area height though and simply cut off images which don't fit ... please don't scale them!Smile

Increasing the maximum number of characters in a sig would be useful. Sometimes the available 200 characters weren't enough for me (I had to, for example, combine two pictures into one 'cos their addresses contained too many characters, usually just 2 or 3 over 200!).

Or fix the sig cell height and have it scrollable.

Actually I'm all for limiting signature height ... but the standard 10 line last.fm signatures should be allowed IMO, and the standard height generated on my server is 170px (with the smallest font size). 200px would be perfect IMO.

That's what I meant by limiting the signature area height ... and it's actually already in the stylesheet, only the images are scaled to fit the maximum height as well (css attribute "max-height").

IMO it would be perfect if M@x removed the image scaling and set max-height of the signature div to 200px.Big%20smile

^ hmm, the re-scalling of your sig looks dreadful Disapprove. I don't have a problem with 250 or 300px even, it's only the really big ones (400+) that need fixing.

It should be, indeed, fixed.

I think 250-300 pixels would be a good height to both limit the ridiculously large ones and allow people to still put nice-looking and eye-catching pictures in their sigs.

But then again, I usually adblock the ones that annoy me, so I don't have a problem with people having huge images in their signatures.

Put em back the way they were. Signatures were a great insight in to the personality of the poster. It's a great method of expression and shouldn't be so drastically limited. The limit should be larger, if there need be one at all.

Haha, did mailto:M@x - M@x read my complaints, I wonder? In any case, thank you, it makes reading so much easier! I hate these emoticons, but I'm so happy I'm going to use them anyway! ClapThumbs%20Up

I agree with Mike, the images should be cut off if they're too big, because right now the huge file is still there, so the poor suckers on 56k will still have to load it, even if now they can get past it without breaking their scroll buttons.

If there is truly no way to get a last.fm/whatever sig smaller than 200px, then I support an increase to that. It's not fair to penalize them with an unreadable sig because they want to show that easily.
The character limit also should be higher, as long as the 200px limit is maintained. 200px high is way more than 200 characters, and if someone wants to fill his sig with words, why not? It loads a hell of a lot faster than image sigs. Forcing people to make an image with the words they want to say is not a good solution, which is what I had to do once.

I'm leaving my "big" signature in place until the problem is solved ... all Ratingfreak.com sig users can adjust the "Max Lines" setting to 5 as a workaround.

It seems like the signature area height is now limited to 200px, but the image height is still limited to 150px.

Suggestion: Limit the image to 200px, and the signature area to 220px. This will allow people to use a signature image and one line of text.

so M@X.. what is more important....  some people having to wait a few extra moments for a page to load.. or the physical well being of your older posters here hahhaha   It's enough that this site dents the wallet.. now it will accelerate the decline of our older members eyesight LOL

One slightly annoying effect is that signature images are setting the minimum width of the page, which is a real pain on my laptop whenever James posts because his super-wide Ratingfreak chart means I have to horizontal-scroll to read posts, which is like really irritating, you know.

I did shrink it to 800px, but I've put it back to 1000px now, sorry Dean!

I cannot adjust the colours or the height of my ratingfreak signature, due to some weird error on Mike's site.

I can change the width and font style though.  Poor old Bobby Wyatt now gets pushed off the edge and cut in half when my ratingfreak sig increases in size (due to the flip over to the Top Albums list).

I might have to shrink it back to 800px again.

Edit: it's now back at 800px width.

^ the height of the sig can be adjusted by changing font size and max lines ... currently you cannot specify a maximum height in pixels. In your case I see no problem with reducing the width, I mean do you really need 5 columns of top artists?Wink

BTW: I'll change the color editor this weekend ... unfortunately it works fine for me in IE7 and Firefox, I still don't know why other people are experiencing problems.

No problem.  I have reduced the width, Mike and nothing suffers.  I did have issues with changing the fonts and font sizes the other day, but that was due to the pixel height for signatures here on P.A., so I may attempt a font change again later.
