You all know the drill, you unexplainably end up on a deserted island with 5 CD's in hand and a pizza with your choice of toppings. So which do you have?

1. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (The different assortments of music and the length make this on key in my 5)
2. Area - Arbeit Macht Frei (I can think of no better place i would like to listen to this album than all by myself on a windy island)
3. Focus - Hamburger Concerto (Simply one of my favourites)
4. Mike Oldfield - Ommadawn (Relaxing)
5. Van Der Graaf Generator - H To He Who Am The Only One (The theme of the album just seems fitting)

PIZZA - bacon, pepperoni, ham, sausage, cheese.

you placed this in the prog lounge, so I'll choose from that area of my collection:

1. Art Bears - The World as it is Today: i'd bring this as a function of it being my favourite album as I keep saying as often as possible in all tangentially relevant threads o:)
2. Area - Arbeit Macht Frei: how did you know?
3. Jannick Top - Soleil d'Ork: suits my occasional penchant for heavier music without being uselessly metallic (this could also be any '70s Magma or Weidorje album but "Jannick Top"'s another phrase I like to repeat.)
4. Radiohead - either Amnesiac, Kid A or Hail to the Thief: modern music to prevent me from the inevitable retreat into retrosolipsism.
5. Wha-ha-ha - Shinutokiwa Betsu: I'll need to laugh ;P

Pizza: Tuna! (*meow*)

Rush albums... five of them... ANY five.

But limiting to one per artist:
1. Rush - Different Stages (3 discs!). But Permanent Waves if only studio.
2. Dream Theater - Awake
3. Chris Squire - Fish Out Of Water
4. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
5. Tool - Lateralus

Pizza? Spicy Pirogi (I don't know what's on it, but it's awesome!)

I think I only need one, "Secrets of the Beehive" by David Sylvian. But if I had to take five (prog) albums:

1. David Sylvian - Secrets of the Beehive
2. Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
3. King Crimson - Islands
4. Tangerine Dream - Rubycon
5. Yes - Relayer

1. Magma - Live ; for my mandatory regulatory zeuhl fiesta
2. Pat Metheny - Speaking of Now ; for my mandatory nostalgic simmering/marinating
3. Captain Beefheart - Safe as Milk ; so that I can say "Why didn't I bring Trout Mask instead?!?" for eternity
4. Weidorje - Weidorje ; epic groovage is a requirement
5. Univers Zero - Heresie ; to lullaby me to peaceful slumber when I can't sleep

And the toppings on my pizza would be various zeuhl, RIO/avant, kraut and Canterbury albums. *graaa*

I hope my Island is next to Vom's since after swapping Crimson for Meddle, that would be a pretty damn near ideal list for me, however, in an attempt to be original:

1. Pink Floyd - Meddle
2. Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure
3. Savatage - Dead Winter Dead
4. Supertramp - Crime Of The Century
5. Sigor Rós - Ágætis Byrjun

Pizza - Calzone - with Steak, potato, onion and suede filling - and make the dough out of short-crust pastry instead of that tasteless cardboard pizza's are made from (pizza... what a dire piece of foodstuff - Italy has a great cuisine, but pizza...? No. Come on - the only people who ever finish a whole pizza would have eaten photograph of one smeared in ketchup and been just as happy). Pah!

...and I'll have it with chips and baked-beans, two sliced of bread and butter and a mug of hot tea with milk and sugar. Big%20smile

All right guys, lets say this desert island thing is for real. this is all you get to listen to, all of you wouldn't pick  double or triple album complilations. Now don't get me wrong, I don't like complilations, but if I'm really leaving for a desert island I want as much music as possible.

Quantity or quality ShockedWink. I suppose you're right though. But none of us will ever know until we're stranded on
a desert island saying "I'm so sick of these albums!"

Well, I would like to know why I'm going to a deserted island in the first place. I would never choose to go to one; no conceivable event would cause me to move to one, and if I'm forcibly being taken to one, I get the feeling that I won't have the option of picking music to listen to when I get there. I can't pick just 5, anyway, but here is what I'm thinking of right now:

The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute and De-Loused in the Comatorium
Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever

Pizza - Philly Cheesesteak pizza!

Bloody bloody bloody difficult one, this. Ask me again tomorrow and half of them will probably be different.

Cardiacs - Sing to God (I'm allowed both parts, right?)
Gentle Giant - Playing the Fool
Focus - Focus 3
Hatfield and the Noth - The Rotters' Club
Zamla Mammaz Manna - Familjesprickor

Pizza: Magherita. Unlike music, I like my pizzas uncomplicated.

I imagine this is five prog albums, not just five albums. If so, I would probably just choose five Dream Theater albums, but as I'm stranded forever, I'd probably want some variation.

Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory
Dream Theater - Train Of Thought
Cynic - Traced In Air
Jordan Rudess - The Road Home
Rush - Moving Pictures

PIZZA - Dominos, thin crust with chicken, sweetcorn, muchrooms and ground beef.

You know, pretty much anything you could bring along musically would get tiring after a while if you could only have five no matter what you brought.  As long as I can bring my head along I'll just listen to whatever comes to mind in my head and you can't stop me.  And if I sneak on my digital music player I might be able to get by for quite a while.

OK, OK I'm going to pick titles out of my last few additions:
Kansas - Two For The Show
Umphrey's McGee -Mantis
Nektar - Book Of Days
The Pineapple Thief - Tightly Unwound
Talisma - Quelque Part

and that's all I'd need, oh wait, also
Gongzilla    Thrive
Gong, Pierre Moerlen's    Pentanine
Santana    Borboletta
Reasoning, The    Dark Angel
Crimson Jazz Trio    King Crimson Songbook Volume 1
Wilson, Steven    Insurgentes
Jethro Tull    Nightcap
Penguin Café, The    Music From the Penguin Café

and that's all I'd need

For pizza, I'd have to place an order in the Atlantais area for an Athens Pizza.  One that has gyro meat, feta cheese, calamata olives, pepperoncini, tomatoes...
Probably a really big one with 50 pounds of the toppings, even knowing that I'd have to figure out how to build the boat by myself to get the hell off the island.

Now on Gilligan's Island I'd have the entire DVD series of Lost and wouldn't be able to play it because all that would be available would be coconut/bamboo CD players that couldn't play DVDs anyway and aren't actually able to play CDs either (it was the '60's after all...).  The pizza would be a sand one with coconut and banana topping because that would be all you could get.

Now how about if one were trapped on a dessert island?...

yummy!  screw the prog...  take the pizza.  Bet most of us have those albums we picked riveted into our conscious anyway and don't need to have the albums to 'hear'  them.

Then all I'd need is Mary Ann.  Big smile

I always liked Mary Ann more than Ginger, though I do prefer to use ginger in cooking.

I forgot to mention a pizza. I like my pizzas with LOTS of toppings. Let's see: Tuna, ham, salami, onions, garlic, sliced green, red and yellow bell peppers, eggplant, anchovy, egg, mushrooms, Gorgonzola... that's all which comes to my mind right now. The more the merrier. Wink

Choosing from only studio albums listed on PA:

1. Tales from Topographic Oceans (Yes)
2. Somewhere to Elsewhere (Kansas)
3. Kind of Blue (Miles Davis)
4. Deadwing (Porcupine Tree)
5. Mei (Echolyn)

I guess I'm comfortable with that list.  The bottom two could be subject to change, but this is my list for today.

Pizza Hut Pan Supreme would do it for me.

2. Can - Ege Bamyasi
3. Igor Stravinsky - The Firebird/The Rite of Spring
4. Charles Mingus - The Black Saint & the Sinner Lady

And, as a first year college student, I can safely say that I don't even want to think about pizza for a good long while.
