Firstly, I would like to say hello to all of you Thumbs%20Up

I don't know whether this is the right place to ask for; anyway, you could forward me to a proper section of the forum Wink

Regarding the subject, I'd like to collect some progressive rock bands' names; bands who mainly used
to play organ as you can hear in The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown's Fire or Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

I already know ensembles like Spring, Arzachel, Quatermass, Colosseum and so on...
Any advice?

As you mention The Crazy World, get yourself something by Atomic Rooster - preferably their wonderful Death Walks Behind You. Anything with Dave Stewart on board is also worth checking out. As you mentioned Arzachel, I suppose you're familiar with Egg, Khan, National Health, Hatfield and the North.... All absolutely fantastic outfits, a must for anyone who is into organ-based prog.

Edit: And congratulations for getting it right the first time!Clap This is indeed the right section to post such a query... Lots of old-timers still get the various sections wrongWinkLOL!

Check out The Cosmic Nomads (they have an entry on PA). Some great Hammond-driven stuff.

Van der Graaf Generator are very organ based. and if you like the Hammond and are into fusion, I recommend Barbara Dennerlein, the queen of the Hammond organ. have a look at this clip of her:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa-nKS89ATI - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa-nKS89ATI
the bass you hear in that song is her playing the foot pedals while doing all the other stuff on her organ

Deep Purple, generally the earlier albums are more organ based than the later ones. Also, any Keith Emerson band, Nice or ELP. Soft Machine III features lots of jazzy Wurlitzer organ playing from Mike Ratledge and not a guitar in sight.

Tony Kaye's Badger features Yes's original kydst playing lots of B-3. Brian Auger's Oblivian Express also features lots of B-3, generally the earlier albums are better than the later ones, but not always. In the world of more recent fusion there is the organ trio Niacin. If you want to get into older fusion there is Larry Young.

You might want to try our search function, Erik Nueteboom (sp?) did an extensive thread on the Hammond B-3 in rock and jazz.

oh, and if you know Arzachel then you should definitely check out Khan too. "Space Shanty", their only album, is nothing but excellent

Triumvirat,Germany.70's ELP clone.

The Trip,Italy.Another ELP clone.

I always admired how fast she plays bass with her pedals. Reminds me of my childhood: the electric organ was the first instrument that I learned.

Welcome

You are quite right to ask about the "proper section" since your topic has been well covered. Strongly suggest  you use the search engine (top RH) and then play around with keyword combinations (have to admt it can often be very frustrating and unreliable search engine) .Eric N. had two long and pretty good threads on the Hammond - one reviews, the other a sort of history:

Well, many thanks to all of you. You've been very fast in replying me (14 posts in less than 8 hours)
and kind. I've noted all the names you suggested, and even the links to that Hammond guide too.
Anyway, any further advice will be appreciated Wink

Let's not forget Traffic.Steve Winwood was one of the best organist of his days.

Another curios from the fertile 70's was Germany's 2066 & Then. They realeased an album entitled Reflection.Full of heavy rippin' Hammond.

While I'm at it,seems that the Germans were quite good on the heavy organ based rock/prog.

Now that you mention it, Thijs is one of the most progressive organ players from the '70's that comes to mind.  Then again, maybe you're talking about some other kind of organ... Tongue
