I know these are by no means all of the Swedish groups that have ever existed. But they are by and large the most popular on PA. Which do you favour? Also any suggestions of any more Swedish bands are perfectly welcome. My vote is for The Flower Kings. Other pretty good Swedish bands of note are Beardfish and Simon Says. -------------

You could also look at Cloudscape, Darkwater, Mind's Eye, Evergrey, Wolverine, Andromeda, Seventh Wonder, Dimension 34, DestyNation to name but a few.

| I like all. Actually, the first 3 in particular. I used to like TFK, but recently I lost interest in their works. PoS, Opeth and Meshuggah however, are bands that I find refreshing and are constantly putting out great albums. |

1. Those are the only Swedish progressive bands I know of, who cares if three are metal? they are all COMPLETELY different. 2. Flower Kings are not soft prog by any means. Guys, the question is "who do you prefer of these bands," not "who is your favorite band from Sweden." Anyway, I love all of these bands, but I'm going to give mine to Meshuggah because they have no votes at this point. Wait, did you get that backwards?  What does Opeth have that would classify as masterpieces over The Truth Will Set You Free, Devil's Playground, Stardust We Are, I Am the Sun... The closest thing to a masterpiece I've heard from Opeth is the title track of Blackwater Park or maybe Ghost of Perdition. Voted for FK, btw.

Godhead's Lament, The Night And The Silent Water, Advent, The Moor, Moonlapse Vertigo, Bleak, The Leper Affinity, April Ethereal, When, Demon Of The Fall, To Bid You Farewell, Deliverance, Face Of Melinda... Basically every good song they write is a masterpiece, which in other words is every song off every album except Orchid, Damnation, Deliverance and Watershed, which have about three or four good songs in each. ------------- "Market value is irrelevant to intrinsic value." Never cared for the Flower Kings at all Pain Of Salvation is in 3rd, but mind you way ahead of FKs for me. Opeth just narrowly beats Meshuggah for me. |

If anything I would prefer to hear more of them Flower Kings of these bands, but I prefer Anekdoten, Sinkadus, Anglagard, and Beardfish. If more of Opeth were like Damnation, for me they would win this poll. I still can't get the hang of the growling . . .

If you like some really, really folky stuff then I highly recommend Kebnekaise - you can hear some stuff on their PA page, but other than that nothing comes to mind at the moment. Sweden is a great country for music, though! |

None of the bands are really my thing, but PoS had some good moments in a couple of albums. I'm not very familiar with Opeth, but for some reason can't find them interesting... ------------- This is not my beautiful house... |
