I'm bored, that's why i made this poll. I'm always curious about peoples collections anyway. I just counted mine, and i have exactly 248 at the moment. I voted 250-500, since i have an order of 5CD's that should arrive next week. So... Answer the poll!

That was a tough one. At first I was going to vote I don't like music. Then I was going to vote 10,000 +. Ultimately, I decided to go with the truth. I have about 1300 CDs. And it is ever-growing. Sadly, I'm going to have to start resorting to downloading music instead in the near future. I'm running out of room to put my CDs. In fact, all I have in my refrigerator at the moment are CDs and beer.

And just because i'm a geek:
46% Prog in most forms (King Crimson, Genesis, Soft machine, Camel...) 23% Metal (Iron Maiden, Opeth, Death, Blind Guardian...) 21% Hard Rock/Heavy Prog/Prog Related (Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Rush, Led Zeppelin...) 8% Jazz & Jazz-rock/Fusion (Miles Davis, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Return to Forever)

|

I would say that my collection includes about:
55% Prog (not including prog-related and prog metal)
20% Classic rock (including prog-related stuff)
15% Metal (including prog metal)
8% New wave/80's stuff
2% Classical and jazz

I have between 3000 and 5000 CDs. I have been downloading alot more CDs in recent years, but I still like to burn them to physical CDs. I do seem to have CD and DVD storage units in just about every room of the house.

If we count only my CDs, it's somewhere between 400 and 450. Now that I'm moving to the US, our joint collection will number close to 1,000, possibly more.

I would have been in the 500's by now but I got rid of a lot of CD's moving to Missouri. In hindsight it was a mistake.

I'm up to 1140. I have them stored in a couple of storage units that look like a chest of drawers, so they're all in one place and don't take up a whole lot of space.

CD's are a bu**er to store - they take up a lot of albums-per-inch space, and if you keep them in a pile after running out of rack space they fall and break into little pieces
LP's are easier to store, more albums-per-inch and they stay nicely flopped in their racks.

I download most of my music off iTunes, although when it's a particularly obscure band i normally order from specific sites off the internet. 99% of the time however, it's iTunes, although I do love the glossy textures of CDs, with the little booklet of photos and lyrics that you just wanna touch your face with... *cough* Yeah CDs are good, but mostly I'm too lazy or skint to buy an entire album from HMV or something.

I couldn't say. I'm not a collector... collecting means collecting dust IMO. I usually get rid of stuff I don't really listen to, so it's ever-changing. I used to have a lot more than I do now, and I have no idea how many I have currently.

| Also when people see my den they say things like : "Wow! you should open a museum" or "you really know what you`re talking about" when they see multiple pressings of albums I own from various countries with various covers. Last time I checked I had five Hamburger Concertos ! I only buy CDs when I`m forced to, such as the Gentle Giant boxes or new Guru Guru albums. I also laugh at all these idiots on the internet that are trying to get ludicrous prices for LPs that I`ve had for years. There`s a guy who has been trying to sell the same original Green Brain Kanguru album for $79 with the fold out cover since 2004as far as I can tell. I bought mine at place called Cheap Thrills in Montréal in 1977 for a lousy $1.50 Can`t beat vinyl. It has personality. Nostalgia. It sounds better. You can watch it go around. It`s far more interesting. You can fuss over it. Vinyl I LOVE IT
