I've been listening to a lot of crossover thrash lately (a strong mix of hardcore and thrash metal), mostly thanks to GTA IV's radio station Liberty City Hardcore. The only bands I really know that are crossover thrash are Suicidal Tendencies, Discharge and Killing Time. First, does anyone actually listen to hardcore on this page (hardcore is probably taboo to some on here, it was to me for a bit) and if anyone does can they recommend to me any artists that have a thrash/hardcore sound similar to Discharge or Suicidal Tendencies? Thanks...

Would you like some Bailey's?

I can´t say that I´m the biggest hardcore fan but I did listen ( and still do to some extent) a couple of crossover bands back when I was younger.

D.R.I.
M.O.D.
S.O.D.
Gang Green
Beowülf
Uncle Slam
I seem to remember a Swedish Discharge clone band called Dischange ( but I´m not sure)
And how about good old Nuclear Assault ?
The Accüsed

And some new ones:

Gama Bomb
Municipal Waste ( great band that one)

I forgot Exhorder. Listen to their Slaughter in the Vatican album. Great stuff. Not exactly crossover but you might enjoy it anyway.

Cryptic Slaughter
Dayglo Abortions ( a bit more on the punk side but try out their Feed Us a Fetus album. What an entertaining album)
Genocide SS ( might be a bit too much on the punky side as well, but recommendable as well)

They're a great deal more "sophisticated" than usual for crossover thrash, but do investigate Carnivore. If the vocals and bass playing sounds familiar it's because both come courtesy of a pre-Type O Negative Peter Steele.

Well, how much crossover thrash have you heard that uses the word "cytoplast" in their lyrics, or as drastic shifts in mood as the song Male Supremacy contains? Wink

Are we not on the edge of grindcore with these ones?

yup, early Grindcore bands, but also very much Thrashcore/Crossover especially in the Thrashy picking, Electro Hippies actually became more of a Crust band later on

Good question, but most likely not.

Cool band though btw.

They were pretty much a hardcore punk/metalcore hybrid, rather than a thrash metal/hardcore punk (which is a big part of crossover thrash).

I can see how you may have thought they were crossover thrash, but not quite.

A question for those in the know:

I've been brushing up on my metal history, checking bands in the late 70's, early 80's, and well... isn't thrash itself a blend of heavy metal and hardcore, making pretty much ALL Thrash "crossover" ?

Er, I won't say that thrash-metal was in se a "crossover" genre: it always was more rooted in heavy metal (especially NWOBHM) than hardcore.

damn... thought Nuclear Assault would have looked good in the same genre as ELO myself LOL

were not talking about Thrash Metal here (in itself had some Hardcore influence), but the subgenre of Thrash Metal and Hardcore coined "Crossover", which started out as mostly Hardcore bands looking in a new direction for playing fast music, ie Thrashy picking, Crunchier guitar tones, Moshy breakdowns, etc. DRI, COC, SOD, Suicidal Tendencies, Agnostic Front, The Accused  early Nuclear Assault and some others are probably the more proper examples of the subgenre

Er, I was answering to DatM (see above) who was asking if Thrash wasn't already a kind of "crossover".
