Hmmm, very difficult to choose a third, although my first two are very straightforward.  We'll go:-

1.  Cinema Show
2.  Firth Of Fifth
3.  Musical Box/Duchess/Suppers Ready

(can we not make it a top 5?)

Actually, I think that Land of Confusion isn't bad for a pop song. Embarrassed
It's just bad for a Genesis song.

Hmm, had to answer this one:

"The Cinema Show / Aisle of Plenty"
"Dance on a Volcano"
"One for the Vine"

Number 3 was tough, I gave serious consideration to "Supper's Ready" and "The Chamber of 32 Doors".

A little birdy with too much time putting off his paperwork told me that the running totals so far, excluding one vote getters  and the later era trolling is:

Carpet Crawlers - 2
Chamber of 32 Doors - 2
Eleventh Earl of Mar - 2
Dance on a Volcano - 2
Blood on the Rooftops - 2
Can - Utility and the Coastliners - 2
Colony of Slippermen - 2
Lamia - 3
Return of Giant Hogweed - 4
Entangled - 4
In the Cage - 6
One for the Vine - 6
Dancing with the Moonlit Knight - 10
Cinema Show (w or w/o Aisle of Plenty) - 13
Musical Box - 20
Firth of Fifth - 21
Supper's Ready - 25

I love virtually all classic Genesis, but I'm a little puzzled at Firth over Moonlit Knight....oh well. It all great music.

Stagnation and Knife each got one vote. A little surprised on the latter. I'm a big Trespass fan, too, but I typically think of "The Knife" and "the rest of Trespass" to which I actually enjoy "the rest of Trespass" a little bit better.

I'm not too fond of Visions of Angels, but the rest is great, especially The Knife. My only gripe with that song is that the version on Genesis Live is far superior.

Pretty good, but you can't listen to Riding the Scree without In The Rapids... and It... and The Light Dies Down On Broadway. Okay, it's basically come down to you can't listen to The Scree without the rest of the damn album.

That's my problem. All the stuff on The Lamb is so damn good, I can't just listen to one part of it.LOL

3) Firth of Fifth

Call me opinionated but I think those choosing "The Waiting Room" are just trying to be controversial Wink

Ever hear of differences in taste? Confused

I don't find the choice of The Waiting Room controversial, but I do find it quite odd - and certainly out of kilter with most of the perceived wisdom and Genesis fans' opinions.

I have been listening to Genesis since the early 70s, and since The Lamb ( which is my fav Genesis album incidentally )  was released in 74, I have yet to hear one fan ( outside this forum) mention or list The Waiting Room among their favourite Genesis tracks. It is a good instrumental and fits well with the album's atmosphere - but it is stretching the imagination just a little to suggest that it belongs among Genesis' more memorable tracks.

Or infamous ? Whichever you prefer.  Wink

Well, of course 'tis me . If I catch anyone impersonating my good self, he ( or she ) will hereby be sentenced to listen to those ghastly  Phil Collins solo albums forever more in a darkened room. LOL

I was gently hauled/cajoled  out of semi - retirement  ( er, make that invited  Big smile)  to <aherm> add  a little spice to this here proggy  forum  -  whilst offering my very own unique take and slant on things.

I'm settling in quite nicely.

It's a trick question to name just three because there are four songs that stick out:

1. Supper's Ready
2. Firth of Fifth
3. One for the Vine/Cinema Show (that's why I'm cheating a bit here)

Musical Box, Stagnation and Looking for Someone are great as well.

I don't consider myself odd, but I've always loved The Waiting Room.  Whilst it doesn't quite make my top 3, it's close.  Love the weird bit, but the end sequence of the song particularly is amazing music, and a real highlight of The Lamb.

Hello all,

- Supper's Ready
- The Fountain Of Salmacis
- Star of Sirius

OK, for the last one I cheated.  But the track has been called elsewhere the greatest Genesis song not on a Genesis album.  I find I can't get enough of that track, let alone many of the others on Acolyte.

But if forced to give a #3 track actually by Genesis then I suppose I would say good old reliable Watcher of the Skies.  But then again how can I leave out the Lamb?  Or leave out... oh decisions, decisions!

Wierd that no one has mentioned "Anyway" yet, to me it´s the finest moment on a fantastic album. so, the list:
