I'm surprised that And You And I appears so low on most of these lists. I think it's one of their few songs where they really achieve a level of perfection unmarked by any other band.

1. And You And I (Cord of Life; Eclipse; The Preacher The Teacher; Apocalypse)
2. Starship Trooper (Life Seeker; Disillusion; Wurm)
3. Roundabout
4. Close to the Edge (Solid Time of Change; Total Mass Retain; I Get Up I Get Down; Seasons of Man)
5. South Side of the Sky
6. The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn)
7. The Remembering (High the Memory)
8. Long Distance Runaround/The Fish (specifically the live version)

I can't possibly decide on the last two.

I love Sweetness and in fact, I love the whole of the first album. It's just that Yes has written so many good other songs. It's not in my top 10 and probably also not in my top 20, and still... I like it a lot.

1. Close to the Edge
2. The Revealing Science
3. And You and I
4. The Remembering

After that, the next six, depending on the day:
- Gates of Delirium
- Sound Chaser
- Siberian Khatru
- Heart of the Sunrise (as done on Yessongs)
- Machine Messiah
- Tempus Fugit (or maybe Does it Really Happen?)

I could easily have included:
South Side of the Sky
Future Times/Rejoice (personally, I love this piece)
Awaken
Astaral Trav'ler (hey, that's the way they say it! - I chuckle lightly every time)

And perhaps one more: I'll admit that Turn of the Century has caused me to tear up.  A moving track wonderfully done; the church setting really suits.

... Aaargh.  Just finished the list and was about to post it when I noticed I'd missed The Yes Album's great material.  Shee-oot, this is too hard.

Mr. Cub,

The following is in no way meant to antagonize, honest.  (That was not sarcasm, so please don't think me sarcastic.)  I like the NL, and especially like the good olde teams like the Cubbys.  I'm just curious, since a funny thought occurred to me.  What will you say of the Cubs across the coming years?  If they will "shine in 2009", then what of future years?  I suppose "heaven" can be used for 2011, but what the heck would the rhyme be for 2010, 2012?

It's good to see AWAKEN getting such high placing in so many lists.  I think it's a great song.  The first part with the full band is some the most exciting music they, or anyone, else has ever done.  But what's really thrilling for me is the twice-achieved trip all the way down the circle of fifths and back again (or up the circle of fourths if you like) which comprise the remainder of this track.  The first time they just rush right through the changes, unleashing a boundless sense of joy; the second time the entries stagger beautifully and build to an unbelievably grand head.

Awaken is the best.  Thank you for joining the small number of Yes fans who have come to that realization.  (Although I can't really argue with people who claim that And You and I is the best instead.)

I posted 10 back in April.  But Yes is sort of a life-long occupation of mine, and I find that my interests and listening move about.  I've been on an early Yes jag lately.  Those albums may not be so symphonic and advanced as the ones that would follow, but they are wonderful.  And I especially like their production.  From the first notes way, way up on the bass in "Beyond and Before" you're hooked if you're not dead.

So my top 10 'lately':

1. Beyond and Before
2. Everydays
3. Survival
4. No Opportunity
5. Harold Land
6. Starship Trooper
7. Perpetual Change
8. Looking Around
9. Ast-a-ral Traaaa-v'ler

Everyone posts his lists and seems does not read what others think. Looks like the vaste of time and nothing more.

Hey Bufo
Thank God you suggested a Top 11!! "In The Presence Of" is really a good choice. I saw Yes in 2001 in Montreal with the Yes Symphonic and they played that song which I consider as a true prog rock classic. I can't say that "Magnification" is a great album though. It contains some good tunes, but nothing compares to epics like "Awaken" or "The Revealing Science Of God". Thumbs Up

^ No problem, if it will make you happier I free this thread from my presence. Bye-bye.

Kinda see his point though...
I read some of the other posts in here, but not all of them.  What surprised me was the large number of people who included tracks from Topographic Oceans in their lists.

I think my own top 10 changes from week to week, but Awaken is always near the top.  Yours Is No Disgrace is always in there, as is Heart Of The Sunrise and On The Silent Wings Of Freedom.  I've got to choose another six? Confused
Harold Land
Astral Traveller
Into The Lens
Survival
Close To The Edge
Future Times

There ya go...

I intentionally tried to get a variety of lineups.

I congratulate you on being the second poster to include Yes West material.

Damn this'll be a pretty easy list. All the Yes songs I like are basically confined within a few albums (not including that 90215 piece of crap).

Let's see, here's a list, in no particular order, of my favorite Yes songs:

1) Long Distance Runaround (Fragile)
2) Siberian Khatru (Close to the Edge)
3) Roundabout (Fragile)
4) Close to the Edge (CttE)
5) Machine Messiah (Drama)
6) Heart of the Sunrise (Fragile)
7) The Fish (Fragile)
8) Mood for a Day (Fragile)
9) Survival (Yes)
10) Magnification (Magnification)

You will love and, probably, be infuriated by all three, and I suspect that once you do, the last three on your list will be subject to a lot of internal debate about revising your choices.
