For a while, as in a many years of webdom, I have not found a website that lists releases, new and recent, for Prog. You catch tidbits here and there, but there is no concise listing. Ghostland has something but it is very weak. Amazon is reasonable but again, requires some digging. So this is the new idea I bring to the ProgArchives table.

You could start with 2009 and maybe work backwards in time from there?

I think I have seen other sites that have something of the sort, though not very systematically done. Personally, I believe it is an excellent idea... There are people here who are in touch with bands, record companies, CD dealers and such, so putting something like that together (and post it on the front page, or in a dedicated thread in the forums) shouldn't be too big a deal.

http://progfreak.com - http://progfreak.com

Currently you can browse the new releases in the left column of the start page ... eventually we'll introduce a separate page for them.

You can even monitor new releases via RSS: http://progfreak.com/srv/releases.xml - http://progfreak.com/srv/releases.xml

Nice. I should go over to ProgFreak more often. I got my sig there a while back. Is there a forum there?

edit: Yes, just saw it. Hmmm...maybe I should be a regular there. LOL

Here are some examples (not many) I have found on other prog websites:

- ProgressiveEars has a link to New Releases on their home page ( http://www.progressiveears.com/default.asp?bhcp=1 - http://www.progressiveears.com/default.asp?bhcp=1 );
- ProgressiveWorld also has a page dedicated to new releases, organised by label in alphabetical order:
  http://www.progressiveworld.net/html/modules.php?name=Releases - http://www.progressiveworld.net/html/modules.php?name=Releases .

Most sites I know list the newest albums/reviews added to the database, but have no space specifically dedicated to new or upcoming releases.

Confused

See here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=52979 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=52979

This idea (and a very good one I may add) has already been discussed previously at a recent Site Monitoring meeting and passed up to mailto:M@x - M@x via the admins.

Whilst I can keep members informed of PM releases (in the main) compiling a list across all sub genres is another thing altogether.

It certainly is a great way to attract visitors with a New Release Calendar on the front page.

Maybe an admin can post an update on the above in this thread??

Seems like a great idea to me....There are alot of new releases, some more important than others (Actual new material vs. repackaging, etc.)

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Occasionally adding some info about the music we're listening to is actually pretty much all we do over there.Smile
