After a life spent playing in the canterbury scene, Jan Schelhaas has published his first solo CD. The title is "Dark Ship". I'm currently listening to the second track so its too early for a review, I can say that the first track is absolutely not bad. The second has a long intro of keyboard and flute (Jimmy Hastings?) then goes to the usual soft atmspheres as when he played with Camel.

I'm listening now to music off the album, nice.

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

I have forgotten this post...the album is not as good as I was hoping, but I think Jan Schelhaas should be added at least because he has spent his life playing for Canterbury and Symphonic prog bands...any thought?

^ Then we should also also add Phil Collins. Wink

The question is, is his solo album prog?

aaarrghhhhh dont't spell that name!!!!!

Well it's his only album at all. It's prog but unfortunatey not very good prog. (between 2-3 stars maximum).
I have found it looking for people who worked with Camel. It's 4 years since a Nod and A Wink, and I need some new Camel stuff....Pinch

I asked the Crossover team to give this suggestion a chance; let's see what they say.

Dear crossover team....

I'm cleaning up my suscriptions, this thread is still open. Has anybody evaluated Jan Scheelhas' solo?

Cheers

I listened again to the album. I think it's similar to the some Pete Bardens' solo works, also in the sound quality and the vocals. I think a reference is Speed Of Light. The title track , Dark Ship, could easily be put into that album.
Red Sky at Morning is a short instrumental with some reminds to the Sinclair's period of Camel (Breathless, mainly), same for True Blue
Here and there I can hear something of Camel.
It's a maximum 3 stars album, but I think Camel fans would be happy to have it.

After the first listen I wasn't very impressed, but after some more spins I started to like it also in its more mellow moments. I support his inclusion to the site and I hope he will release something else closely.

And it seems that the flute on Red Sky Morning is Jimmy Hastings'
