Welcome fellow Agalloch fans, this is the place to talk and appreciate the (somewhat) hidden gem that is Agalloch.

To start the discussion off, I'd just like to say that The Mantle is one of the best albums I've heard in recent years, and to be honest, encapsulates everything that I adore about Agalloch.

Does anyone have any further info on the new album?

I got Pale Folklore when it came out in 1998 (I think) and fell for it immediately. Then waited patiently till Of Stone Wind and Pillor came out and then finally when The Mantle was released (I reviewed it here in PA). A stunning album, which many dislike, I know (and can understand why), but it plays a crucial role for me and has such great atmosphere and tunes on it. With Ashed Against the Grain, I still am not as enamored by as with the two first albums.
In any case, an all-time faovurite band of mine.
Has anyone gotten their recent dvd?

I want to get the DVD, I have seen a couple of videos on YouTube, but the quality of the uploads is horrible.

I have not got Pale Folklore, but it is on my wishlist for sure. Ashes has some brilliant moments, but I can't help but feel that some of the atmosphere that was so prevalent in The Mantle was lost. However, as Haughm pointed out he didn't want Ashes to become The Mantle Part 2, and that is an essential part of Agalloch's charm.

Also one of my top groups ever created. Their music is emaculate! The depressing atmosphere, is flawless and all three albums are incredible. I actually like Ashes just as much as the Mantle, though I find Pale folklore a little lacking in comparison to the other two, though it still has one of my favorite songs by them; Hallways of Enchanted Ebony. Is the new DVD good? I understand that I may never see Agalloch live, so I figure I may have to seek it out.

The Mantle and Ashes Against the Grain are amazing, but The White EP is just as good. More people should talk about that little piece of music.

Thats up to your moral code I guess considering they made a limited number of copies.

It's true that it is also on par with the rest of their discography. Get it.

I want to get it, but I saw it on eBay for $88 USD (over $100 NZD), and that is blue murder. Oh well, there is always YouTube.

Has anyone got the DVD?

Agalloch is one of my all times favorite bands. When i first heard Pale Folklore it was love at first sight . i just couldn't stop listening to it for days. also the same  happened with The Mantle.  Such a unique, true inovative aproach i haven't spotted for years. That haunting, stunning, flawless , inspiring music i couldn't still find, although i have listened to tons of music through the years .. Ashes Against the Grain is also excellent album, one of Agalloch fave tracks is there Not unlike the waves.. and man that EP The White , no words to describe that atmosphere , just pure beauty, neofolk all the way , it's a killer, and that is my favorite EP ever heard. i haven't seen dvd yet, but soon i plan to do it . Of Stone, Wind and Pillor is also perfect creation, the Sol Invictus cover ''Kneel to the Cross' is absolute piece of art, Haunting Birds,A Poem by Yeats.. so beautiful

It was a limited release. I had pre-ordered it which was about the only way to get a copy without paying an enormous sum of money.

Fantastic band.

I heard somewhere that they're releasing a new album this year. Don't know anything about it, though.

Somehow this thread escaped me in January. One of my favorite bands. The Mantle is in my top 5 albums of all time. More emotional/emotive music probably does not exist.

Needless to say, I'm thrilled about the new album which I can not wait for. I would like it right now in fact. 2010 is a fantastic year in music, and Agalloch only adds awesomeness. The cover art is certainly interesting.

Personally, Ashes Against the Grain is one of the most beautiful things that happened in my life.
Listening to Limbs or Our Fortress Is Burning (all parts) while walking under the gentle rain is one of life's greatest joy's.

Agalloch is one of the best bands I've encountered in a long long time, and it represents and expresses most of the things I love in music/lyrics: winter, nature, melancholy, metal, folk-ism, atmospheres, and more.

Tip for appreciating more of it: lay in bed with someone you love, turn off the lights, and just listen to any of their songs. It's magical.

Truly fantastic band, I have The Mantle. I rarely listen to it only because it requires a specific mood to have full effect. Apparently they have released two songs from the upcoming album for streaming. I havn't heard them though but this thread has me thinking about it

I was turned onto Agalloch by an internet pal in the UK. He said "I can't believe this band is from America." I listened and I'd have to agree. It's different than what I'd expect from an American band, but that is no complaint! Agalloch are one of the very few metal bands I still listen to, and the thing I love most about them is that their vocals are really easy to tune out. The music is very pleasing and can set the mood for a good night.

Saw a discuss about The White EP. It's pretty good, but their aren't many vocals and a few sound clips from the original The Wicker Man. Overall, the music was alright. I think we're all anxiously looking forward to the new album! I hope it's as majestic as the previous releases.

I tried listening to The Mantle but I can't stand black metal vocals. Death growls are OK, but I HATE those screeching whispers.
