I would like to draw your attention to WyrDGeneS (yes, I have spelt it correctly!)  WyrDGeneS, alias George Edgelander, is a new solo artist from Northumberland in the North of England who takes traditional melodies from the region and experiments with them, using the electric guitar, synthesiser and a variety of different sounds. In the music one can hear frequent changes in mood from the heavier sounds of the electric guitar to softer, more melancholic sounds.
The debut album EdgeLaNDER has just been released commercially and is available from the WyrDGeneS website either as a free download or purchase.

Really?!?  I checked out the free download and it sounds like a better fit in Prog Folk IMHO, what with the acoustic sounds and jigs and reels and fantasy themes and such....

Anyway, let me know what you guys end up deciding...

Oh, I missed the free download notice, so I based my judgment on the two samples from MySpace. If the Prog Folk team wants to evaluate the suggestion, that's perfect Thumbs Up

Thanks for listening!  Big smile I personally (and I think the musician in question George Edgelander will also agree with me) that this fits better in the Prog Folk section, as the pieces are based on traditional melodies local to the Northumberland region of England, though I do agree that many pieces have some Heavy Prog characteristics.

Takes more time Tongue The Heavy team (no diet implications Tongue) has been alerted, so we'll have to wait for their resolution.

WyrDGeneS has provided a biography as follows:

"WyrDGeneS is the solo project of George Edgelander. George plays all guitar and bass parts, as well as creating all other sounds using an assortment of synthesisers, sequencers and other gadgets.
Stylistically the music ranges from heavy rock/metal to gentle, melancholic passages, with more than a passing nod to prog rock, while staying firmly grounded in the melodic tradition of Georges native Northumbria (North East England). George believes passionately that these ancient melodies have every bit as much to offer in a modern context as those of the more widely appreciated Scottish and Irish traditions. As a guitarist George is in no way adverse to the odd fast-fingered flurry here and there but his focus is more on the expressive capabilities of the instrument.

After just over a decade touring the UK and mainland Europe with various bands,
for personal reasons, George increasingly felt the need to withdraw from society and began to lead a more reclusive existence. Forced to retire early from his chosen lifestyle, George retreated to his house in the hills, installed a small studio and set about learning to use it. Debut album, 'edgeLäNDER' is the first result of his experiments."
