Top 15 - Here is the prog poll for definitive albums of 1977. If I missed any that you believe are essential, place them in other section. Bear in mind of course I can’t place every album but these are the ones that seem to find their way into best of lists and are discussed by progheads.

In the year punk tried to kill off prog, there were still some treasures but as you can see the list of classics was thinning out.

Wind & Wuthering – Genesis

Animals – Pink Floyd

Songs From The Wood – Jethro Tull

Ocean - Eloy

Rockpommel's Land – Grobschnitt

Quark, Strangeness and Charm – Hawkwind

Jet Lag - Premiata Forneria Marconi

Oxygene - Jean Michel Jarre

Enigmatic Ocean – Jean Luc Ponty

The Quiet Zone / The Pleasure Dome – Van Der Graaf

A Farewell To Kings – Rush

Seconds Out – Genesis

Rare Birds - Hoelderlin

Elegant Gypsy- Al Di Meola

Playing The Fool Live – Gentle Giant

Had to top up my caffeine level there!

From '77 you could also have had The Geese & The Ghost and Even In The Quietest Moments. I did vote 'other', but I went for Forse Le Lucciole... by Locanda Delle Fate. I know some good people think it borders on elevator prog, but I'm a slut for catchy melodies Wink

Tongue 1977 is my favourite prog year Tongue.

You missed off 2 of my favourites, Going For The One (my fave Yes album) and Black Noise by FM.

However, even if you had, I'd still have voted for Animals Tongue

Animals, with A Farewell to Kings a close second. On a side not, the site keeps telling me I am making too many posts in too short a time. Can I help it if thee are thirty polls I need to vote in RIGHT NOW?

I suppose there are two ways of presenting a poll - either put up the albums you personally like most or put up those which are well known.  This poll clearly goes for the first option which is fair enough.

If the list was of famous prog albums then the following would have to be included.
Yes - Going For the One
ELP - Works Volume 1
Alan Parsons - I Robot
Rush - A farewell to Kings

However, Wind and Wuthering belongs in 1976 - i bought it between Christmas and New Year that year.  I have to say that i was rather disappointed in it and still don't get a great deal out of it.

That was a great year but I'll go for my favourite Rush album, A Farewell To Kings. Going Fot The One (Yes) would have been second which didn't make the list and then Genesis W & W.

Going For The One by Yes, no doubt. The sound, the compositions, the crystalline production....
