Apparently, Trey Gunn’s latest collaborative effort was born of an hour-long drum solo. UKZ drummer Marco Minnemann, who had worked with Gunn in the Eddie Jobson-led prog project UKZ, had recently recorded a 51-minute drum solo and was looking for someone to fill in the blanks. Enter Gunn, whose initial response of "No way!" eventually evolved into the masterful "Modulator", a frenetic and explorative 22-track album set for release May 18. Those interested in having a listen can download the latest episode of Prog'opolis, which aired a sampling of six tracks from the forthcoming release. The latest episode also features the last in a three-part series of songs in odd time signatures, with musical selections as wide-ranging as Gavin Harrison, The Beatles, Faith No More, Big Big Train and the Pat Metheny Group.
