Welcome to Round 1 Division 25 of Battle of the Prog Bands! This time, we have Progressive Metal bands. Your choices are Liquid Tension Experiment, Riverside, Shadow Gallery, and Dream Theater. Vote for your favorite, and the band with the most votes will move onto Round 2.
Here is the tournament thus far:
 I haven't listened to any of these bands, so no vote for me. Let's just say I'll be sitting out for the next few matches.

| I like the 4 bands, but, even though DT has put albums that really pissed me off (ToT and BCASL to name a few), none of the other bands included in the poll has released anything quite like Awake or Images And Words. So, DT gets my vote. |

I don't know. It's going to be a tough choice between The Mars Volta and Rush. But enough talk about Heavy Prog, let's just wait for the metal-heads to come in.

| When i first got into prog, these 4 bands were basically the first bands that i was recomended and listened to. It hard to split this as they are all favs but ill have to go with dt as they have influenced a great majority of the bands in the prog metal sub category and they have released IAW and A as Morningrise mentioned |

| argh, I love both Riverside and Shadow Gallery, so this is a tough decision. Both bands have released two excellent albums (Out of Myself/ADHD and Tyranny/Room V) and some good albums. I think I'll show Shadow Gallery some support, so they wouldn't take such a beating in this poll. |

for me the problem with the DT is that they works are often unequal, don't keep the same, high level; just next to the good songs/albums you can find really cheesy things. -------------

I suspect that DT will win it, but I really like Riverside, another great band I have been introduced to since joining PA, so my vote goes there.

If Riverside had only made Second Life Syndrome, they would still be the best prog metal band of all time. But some of their other stuff is excellent too. The real difference splitter is the vocals; Labrie can't get near Mariusz Duda and I also prefer Piotr Grudinski's atmospheric guitar playing to Petrucci's technical exercises. ------------- A TVR is not a car. | I love DT, LTE had some very good songs, but they were like a taste of what DT would later become. I've heard very little of Riverside, but am interested in getting to know them better, what I heard was quiet cool. I've got no idea about Shadow Gallery. So once again I can't vote. |

I'm surprised this is as close as it is. Regardless, I prefer Riverside's body of work over Dream Theater's at this point in my life. One more vote for the boys from Poland.

Yeah, that's true, but by proxy it means they prefer Riverside. It's like saying you will vote for a political party to ensure another party does not gets into office, even though you don't agree with everything said by the party you voted for. It's no different. |

Just for the record, I still have not voted in this poll because I don't know the bands well enough. If I had less integrity, I would vote for Riverside because I hate DT, but I have not and will not do so. It would be dishonest. So be careful who you point fingers at, Mister Man! -------------

Dead lines for voting should be set before the poll in order to know exactly the terms of it, and so no one complains that if after the poll is over, suddenly the band that got second place takes the lead. It happened before in with Van Der Graaf Generator and Gentle Giant, and it could happen again in here. |

Just preferred Riverside over Dream Theater, despite Scenes being one of my favourite Prog Metal albums. Saw Riverside live in a small venue in London late in 2007 (it cost £10) and they were great.

| The ones that voted for LTE may be regretting that decision by now. Parallel projects of the well known bands shouldn't be included in these polls. Probably DT would have gained those 9 votes, or the majority of them (there must be some Labrie haters that I assume may like LTE and hate DT because of him). |
