Apples and oranges.... If you don't know both, you can listen to these samples to decide.
Check youtube for more music.
Area for me.
------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Area for me as well. I'll abstain from making smart-ass comments.

An please express your feelings when you vote. The votes are merely an accessory to the discussion.
A more accessible Area track from CRA:
And another from Marillion's Radiation:

Sorry, didn''t see your response when I posted before. The Area one is definitely more my style. What's neat for me, though, is how diverse the music represented in PA is, as are the communities of music listeners. I know that Radiation is not one of Marillion's most highly regarded albums, but Area's Caution Radiation Area is not a highly regarded Area album by quite a few -- I love it.

I love Marillion. I love the Fish era and the H era both.
"Radiation" is such an abysmal CD I don't even admit they recorded it and give them a "bye" for it since the ones surrounding it (doesn't matter which they are) are SO good.
I never heard Area. One listen was enough.
Both are abysmal. Down with the both of them.

Dislike both. I like both bands, but neither of these albums do anything for me.

They're both pretty not good.

I like Marillion's album, it's a 3 star for me,but Area's is probably closer to 4.5 stars so no contest.

Yeah, it's definitely Area's most challenging output, but I like it because it makes me think and feel (uneasy)- something that Marillion can't do.

I'm tempted to say that if what you look for in music is something to think about, or something to feel uneasy about, then you're doing it wrong.
...and I did just say that. Here's to giving into temptation.

Well, to each his own. But I think you're also wrong to run away from anything that requires thinking and makes you feel uneasy.

Everything has it's place. A lot of thought should be put into music, but the best music affects the listener without having them think about it. Once in awhile it might be good to break down what you've listened to after the fact, but music is emotive.
In summary, you sir are a robot.

Hadn't heard of UKZ's, that I recall, but have now heard the title track
thanks to your post and youtube. I like Are(A)zione very muchtoo, and love Maledetti which doesn't get much attention at
PA
Incidentally, since CRA is Area's lowest rated album from the
70'a, and Radiation is Marillon's lowest rated album of the 90's,
I thought this might be an interesting match. I think Area's CRA excellent, but wouldn't expect that most people would like it.

Warning!!!! This album is real hazard to anybody's mental health and not
just because of
the radiations. Area's chronological second album (third in the Archives
list) is actually a
secret document that the left-wing activists they were destined for the
Soviet Block!
Forget the titles of the tracks above, as they should
read:
1) U235 + Ar + Honey = Pu 240
2) Zyrconium Yaltanium
Germanium (Precipita Zero)
3) H + He = Kaboum
4) U238 = Co60
+ Cs137 + Fu 2 + n' + n'
5) Lobotomia
If you think I am
kidding you, get the album and you will actually hear what nuclear
fission
and nuclear fusion sound like, neutrons colliding with Vaginium69 . On
the second track ,
torturing of a Co59 isotope whose nucleus is being ripped apart in order
to evolve into
Absurdium 89! On track 3 , you can hear a Zircon molecule copulating a
Germanium
electron on the G-string of the double-bass. How about that Strontium 90
isotope leaving
an indelibile mark on contact with the snare drum for the fourth track!
Then you shall listen
to the last track , head out to CCCP and they will pull out this vital
stuff!
Only recommended to terrorist , nuclear physicists
and babies under two years of age!

Yep, and because I avoid feeling uneasy I voted for Area's stunning album without listening to the Marillion-samples (although I know its cheating).

Area's album is almost great (OK, their debut is even better), Marillion's one is quite boring

I don't know Area, but I love Marillion's Radiation - it's a pity I can't vote in this one...
