last nite, i found on youtube, a live recording of the original Quatermass group's single Black Sheep Of The Family-sound quality and performance are quite impressive
does anybody know where this might have come from?
Is it possiby part of a longer section of live recordings from the band, and if so, wil it see the light of day commercially? Now, that would be really something!

That would be something, indeed, though I doubt it will ever happen. Gustafson said in a recent interview that "as it is now, the sound desk recordings will never be released".

I, however, am in the possession of several live recordings of Quatermass. Quality is not that bad..

Hi,

It is really sad, when people look at their younger days, and they feel so vindictive and hurt by that time and place.

That album was massive, and a total far out thing ... but as luck would have it, that band did not take off, but others did and even sang the tune from it ... which is a great start to the album, but is not the best and most far out part of that album ... the passages with the organ and synthesizer are the neat parts of that album ...

I find it sad that those live recordings will never bee heard ... I for one would love to hear them. If they have anything half as good as the side 2 of the album, for example, it should be fabulous ... and I just feel sad that Mr. Gustafson is stating that and is not giving the creativity a chance.

Yeah I had a few girls I wasn't proud of, but I don't treat them like sh*t! That's not fair to them! Or me!

Yes, it's pretty sad. However, I don't think any of the guys are disappointed with the record. I just don't think that John Gustafson (who is the one who is in possession of the recordings) can see the marketing value of it. I believe he thinks that they would spend more money on it than they will earn on it, if they're going to remaster them professionally, release them on a label and publish them on the public market.

Also, the album was released over 40 years ago. Most youngsters nowadays don't even know of the name Quatermass. In my school, not even the music teachers has heard of them.

Sad, however. The live recordings are from 1974 and would feature Janne Schaffer on guitars.

...

What a crock that is ... with all the computers out there, I can take Pro Tools and make his Quatermass album sound even better ... sorry John, you are totally incorrect here and being selfish ... not to mention that you could sell this right from your home and not lose anything or money on it ...

But that's ok ... far worse art has been hidden, buried and destroyed over the history of mankind, and the respect and love for that spirit ... sometimes just is not appreciated and a few bob, or dollars is not the issue. Because if the love was greater, you and I and anyone else, would not care and get it done ...
