I'm talking, specifically, about the 1955-1960 television series, although I'm open to talking about various adaptations of Robin Hood in general.

I've decided that sometime in the near future I'm going to be making a game based on Robin Hood - the details at this point are fuzzy in the specifics but grand in the over-arching. In short, it requires a budget I don't yet have. Regardless, as part of my R&D process, I bought a number of Robin Hood related products, and finding a box set of the entire series of this old TV show (143 episodes) for only $26.99 on amazon made buying it a no-brainer. (I have checked recently and it's even cheaper now).

Boring acquisition backstory aside, I have to admit that this series has quickly become my favorite adaptation of Robin Hood, and by far also my favorite television series. It is smart, varied, humorous, historically accurate, and well peopled. Being over 50 years old, it lacks many things that one expects from TV nowadays, but that is part of what I love about it. There is absolutely no pandering going on in this TV series whatsoever. And no dumb characters; the characters are all intelligent and well thought out!

Anyways, this show predates prog by over ten years so even though many of us here are aware of a lot that happened before modern times, this show may still be a bit too old. But if anyone here is a fan, I'd love to discuss it.

Currently my roommate and I are on disc 9. The last episode is "A Farewell to Tuck", and we are really, really hoping that it's not Friar Tuck's last appearance, for he is one of our favorite characters (although - it's hard to pick one in this series!). But so far this disc has been absolutely amazing, and it feels like there being only 2 discs left before the series is over is not enough.
