I haven't found a recent poll asking this, so I am doing it. I am curious.

tbh, I can't see why anyone would pick option 2

I'm inclined to agree.  Belew-era is no doubt impressive and still better than most bands out there, but almost nothing can compare to the magic of the early years.

No vote, since both are essential listening.

I won't argue with that, but one of them is still evidently far superior

I'm dissappointed that I can't vote for the Wetton era.

Not to mention that Lizard and Islands usually don't quite get the credit that is due.

Definitely the first era.

I like much of the second era, especially the first few albums, but overall the first is definitely better in my opinion.  It has the entire Wetton era which is about the pinnacle of progressive rock in my mind.  Plus it has Lizard and Islands which are some of my all time favorite albums, and VERY unique sounding.

This is a "no brainer" for me....with no disrespect, the latter music, although of course professionally done, is so repetitive of itself. Belew is quite talented, and thank goodness his input has made it possible for KC to continue in a different light - but, the early King Crimson, is (IMHO) King Crimson.

I love the Belew era very much, but the 1969-1974 era can not be beaten.

Would you like some Bailey's?

The result of this poll was set before it was made. I go for the first era too, without a doubt. Perhaps it could have been further divided as: The Sinfield era, the Wetton era, the 80's era, the double trio, and the Projekts/Power to believe era.

I don't think this is a fair question, since there are more than two distinct eras of KC.

I know, there was no King Crimson in 1980. 1981, on the other hand, is a different story Wink

Yes, I made an error Shocked. Probably I have not listened to Discipline often enough to note when it was exactly recorded... So I mean 1981 to present.
