Subject: The Senmuth Challenge

I figure someone has got to do it, so I have taken it upon myself to review every one of Senmuth's 78 (and counting) albums. For those who don't know about the man's work, Senmuth is a one man band whose work crosses ethic, industrial, and metal boundaries. The guy makes about an album a month, for the past six years.

I dare you to take the Senmuth challenge with me! All of his albums are free for download, in a few different places..

Half the challenge is figuring out the download sites. LOL

He'll have released six more albums before you've finished. It's a logical impossibility.

Well... 6 more reviews in an overall scope of 80+ doesn't seem that much of a daunting addition!

Yeah... thanks for your support guyz! LOL

It is possible to catch up with him, unless Conor is Xenophanes, but I don't believe that you will maintain the will, that's a lot of frickin albums.

You might do it. I've thought  about it. I might listen to some of his mid-period just so I can get some "First Review of This Album"'s before you. Tongue

That being said, I've listened to a couple and while I like them, nothing about them made me want to listen to 80 more. So I'll watch your reviews with interest to get an idea of which ones are worth listening to from now on. XD

Well... it's listenable enough, and I'm definately starting to get a bit tired of the same INDUSTRIAL METULZ with ethnic sounds even after reviewing 3, but part of the appeal is to hear the gradual change of sound.

I listened and reviewed two today. Each school day, I plan to listen to a new one.

According to the commonly accepted Egyptian chronology, that was about the time when the guy he named himself after lived.

I vote for Never. Maybe I take some time to listen to his music later, but then there might be a few more handsful of albums to choose from. Confused

When you are done with Senmuth you can tackle Sebastien Gramond who has 62 albums.  http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5663 - http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5663

All released for free? Purchasing 62 albums would probably be the equivalent of a small car in price

How many times are you listening to each one? Because if it's just once, a lot of people think you should listen to an album 10 times before reviewing it. :P

To Henry's question... I've listened to each album about 5 times on average before reviewing... although i can cut that down to about 3 listens if i take notes and really stay aware about the music.

To Textbook's comment.... Cry

I am sure there will be some gift certificates available to the first one completing 150 words + reviews in well understandable English for all Senmuth albums. Gift certificates that is for wire cutters so the lucky one can escape from his/her local mental hospital or an inflatable dingy if that mental hospital is in the middle of an ocean.

No, seriously I believe at least a $ 25 gift certificate at Amazon can be arranged.

I'm at 10. I started the same job as Conor, and 4 of "First Review of this album" are mine Big smile.
But I'm going slower than him that's currently above 15, I think.

Wel, I'm still at more or less the 25%, but I have decided to give more listens to each album before writing. I have realized that I like the ethnic side more than the industrial, and it's just because of the voice distortion kit. It's his most evident characteristic but it's too much used.

Evolution:Exodus is no longer available on his site.

Last, if you want to finish before the year's end, he has released 6 more albums betwee 1st and 20th of November. He's trying to complicate the thing Big smile

Evolution Exodus isn't avaliable anymore? That's one of his BEST. It's available on Last FM though, that's where I got it from.

Yeah, the distortion vocals really hurt things for me, they rarely worked, but the other singers he uses generally works prettty well.

Thanks for your support guys! I'm going to get all of this stuff done sometime in February, I hope!

The last that I have reviewed is Internal Images, I liked it as much as Path of Satiam. You have rated it two stars only. I'm not very impressed by Bark of Ra at the first liisten....maybe later.

However you are close to complete your challenge, so good luck.

I'm having troubles with the downloads. Bad CRCs and so on...so I'll give another try to Bark Of Ra. I have to say that i prefer the ethnic side of Senmuth, but it's just question of personal tastes.

Cheers

An ambulance with men in white coats has just stopped outside your flat. Just roll up your arm and accept the injection and the relaxing stay in that white walled place.

........... just joking, btw.

I never ever thought you would take up the challenge and I can only express a mix of horror and admiration.

There's a quote on his site that suggests he might be going through some tough times right now. I hope everything is well.

BTW who's got more albums, Senmuth or Gramond?

Posted By: Conor Fynes
Date Posted: February 16 2011 at 16:25
Gramond has more albums I believe, but many of them are unavailable and have been lost (I've been talking to Gramond, and he showed me a list of albums much longer than just the ones available for download.)

Gramond has 70 or so, while Senmuth has about 85. I'm a third through Gramond so far.

TO THERIVER, if you're looking for something really laid back and ethnic, check out Path of Satiam. For a good 'metal' work by him, check out Sebek. For a good mix of the two, check out the first of the Oracle Octave duology.
