Deadline for voting in this poll is October 2nd.
EDIT: Deadline was shortened a week, I think it´ll be sufficient.

Wow, you've managed to include my two favorite, often overlooked, vocalists in each of the polls! It's got to be Dan Swanö for me.

How can I choose from such a selection??!! On technical ability and character, I'm tempted to vote Freddie Mercury, but,,
I'll vote for Chris Thompson. He is a fantastic singer and often overlooked, because MMEB, don't appear to be a favorite among many prog fans.

Simply: Nobody has nominated him. Probably he´s better guitarist than vocalist (it´s my opinion too). Let see:

That's ok. I didn't know about this. In my opinion he is a great singer, regardless about he is one of the best guitarists ever.

I know this may seem like a sin to say, but I am not a big fan Greg Lake, largely because he seems to struggle singing in tune, which is a bare minimum for a singer! So instead I went for Richard Sinclair, who is very understated, and underappreciated.

I've often thought that about Lake too, more so in ELP, than in KC, but I still like the 'tone' his voice generally.

A poll between Mike Patton and Devin Townsend is gonna give me a hard time voting for the most talented, versatile singer. They both have their own charms, Mike can reach from low to ridiculously high notes while singing in many styles while Devy can go around from screaming, crooning and operatic singing while skillfully playing his guitar (arpeggios, anybody?). But I am currently most in the passion with the Canadian, so Devy gets my vote.

All three of my male noms are here...it'll be tough. I really love Vander's vocals, they're unique, and full of emotion. Richard Sinclair has such a warm, friendly sounding voice. Demetrio Stratos...well, he's a vocal beast!
Vander will probably take it though (fanboyism ruling out?) because of his performances on songs like Hhaï, Lihns, and everything else he's sung on.

Oh, Mercury is here, too? Hmm, even less prog, than Ian Gillan (for whom I voted in the other poll.) But Mercury is a really good singer, too, ...difficult decision, but as he already has so many votes, I vote for Wetton, this time. (Oops, already voted, probably I should have voted for Robert Plant, instead? Too late...)

Just wanted to point out, that in this poll it was not an easy decision for me to vote for one. Also I wanted to express my uneasiness, that Mercury might win a poll called 'best prog singer'. But obviously that was to difficult to grasp for you...

I haven´t any problem with Freddie. He was (with Queen of course) quite more progressive than some of singers on the list. A Night At The Opera for example is a masterpiece.
I don´t care if any candidate sings Prog Related, Crossover or perhaps Tech/Extreme Prog Metal. Besides, this is my original submission:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who´s your favourite singer, appearing on Prog Archives in whichever subgenre?
You can nominate maximum 3 male and maximum 3 female singers. Appropriate number of nominees will advance to second round, the poll.
Thank you for your suggestions!
EDIT: For better objectivity, I have divided nominations by sex.

It seems that about 10 singers from each group (depending on number of votes) will advance to quarterfinal. In the case of equality I´ll have to use shoot-off.

Not a sin at all. Lake, behind Jon Anderson and John Wetton, is the most overrated singer from the classic prog bunch. There's nothing particularly special about his voice either, a very typical British rock voice and his soft singing is very flat and lacking in conviction. His aggressive, raunchy delivery is more convincing but nothing great again. Steve Walsh is a much, much better singer than either of these and yet hardly gets mentioned among the better singers of 70s prog, which in my eyes he is.

2. Richard Sinclair

4. John Wetton
5. Demetrio Stratos
and the others are good to (though a couple I haven't heard yet)
