Both songs are somewhat weird, such different than the other King Crimson´s production, but surely excellently played, as usual by them. Cat Food is the best thing the band did in 1970. Happy Family is from Lizard and is about the beatles  |

"Cat Food" is the best song on "In the Wake of Poseidon", and I mean it. The piano playing alone is fantastic. "Happy Family" is another song with the wild piano of Keith Tippett. I like both, but will give my vote to "Cat Food". I love to dance to "Cat Food", by the way. -------------  BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue. |

I can just about toss a coin on these. Not that I don't like them. Hey let's do that and see if my psychic powers cause the coin to make the right decision. Well my psychic powers aren't doing much. I was thinking of going for Happy Family. Happy Food Cat Family? ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I just listened to both songs again. I had completely forgotten how very danceable "Happy Family" is. It will definitely run on our next party.

Happy Family wins easily for me. Not too sure about Sinfield's lyric for Cat Food, although granted it's a fun song. But "I tell you that it's cat food, not even fit for a horse"? So you'd feed it to your cat but not your horse? Pete must not be a cat lover.

"Cat Food" is of course a song about human food, or more specifically about instant meals. So both "cat food" and "not even firt for a horse" are derogatory expressions for it. ------------- BaldJean and I; I am the one in blue. |

The piano part at the end of Cat Food is great, but I can never fully enjoy it because of the lyrics.
I like all of Lizard including Happy Family, so that gets my vote.

Happy Family is one of my favorite KC songs. Cat Food, while good, is probably the closest KC has ever sounded to you're typical rock group. ------------- Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell? I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance. |

Keith Tippett! If you dig KT, I recommend his then future wife Julie Driscoll's 1969 album....or any of the stuff she was doing with Brian Auger.
Oh, and Centipede! Tippett really has/had a groovy avant style....highly listenable yet highly expirimental. ------------- I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there..... |
