Paul's selections were designed so that he was presented with two boxes containing food in the form of a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mussel - mussel , each box marked on the outside with the flag of a national http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football - football team in an upcoming match. His choice of which mussel to eat first was taken as indicating his prediction of a win for the country whose flag was on that box. These selections were correct in four of Germany's six http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_UEFA_European_Football_Championship - Euro 2008 matches, and in all seven of their matches in the 2010 World Cup. He also correctly selected a win for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain_national_football_team - Spain against the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_national_football_team - Netherlands in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_Final - World Cup Final on 11 July by eating the mussel in the box with the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Spain - Spanish flag on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_the_Octopus#cite_note-3 - [4] His "predictions" were 100% (8/8) correct for the 2010 World Cup and 86% (12/14) correct overall. However, the keeper at the aquarium states that Paul was not the same octopus that predicted the results for the 2008 UEFA European Football Championships. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_the_Octopus#cite_note-4 - [5] Paul was retired after the 2010 FIFA World Cup and died soon after.

I've only heard Three Freinds once, so I wont vote, but the appeal of Octopus for me was immediate, while TF didn't do much for me. It's sometimes the case though that the less immediate albums of any band, may hold hidden treasures, so I'll need to check TF out again.

I have a soft spot for Octopus. It was the first Gentle Giant album I heard after reading so much about them when I first started actively exploring prog. As my appreciation for GG grew, so did my appreciation for Octopus and just how darn clever and brilliant those guys were.

Sympathy in the thread seems to be for Three Friends, but Octopus is still winning. Honestly I'm surprised Three Friends made it this far, this is an easy vote for me - Octopus.

I found it hard to match Free Hand against Three Friends; now I find it hard to match Three Friends against Octopus. I would find it easier to match Free Hand (probably my favourite GG studio album) against Octopus, so I vote for Three Friends.

Both are magnificent - and yet I'd favour ATT and FH ahead of both. Just for the sake of Schooldays I voted for Three Friends.
(This is almost as tough as choosing between your own children...)

Three Friends.  I suppose Octopus is going to win, which puzzles me greatly.

Actually, the true puzzlement lies in the disqualification of The Power And The Glory and In A Glass House.  I had no idea Three Friends was so high in the fans' esteem...

Three friends was just too short.  Musically, I do like Octo better.  Both are essential members of my music collection.

But if you could choose not to choose which one would you choose not?  This is important because if you are posting on the thread then it may be obligatory.

Tree Friendsi find a bit confused but with some exelent highlights, where i find Octopus to be very relaxed, and solid all the way trough. My vote goes to Octopus.

NB: Havent followed the match, How did the "The Glass House" come down ?
Would have expected that to be a favorite.

Octopus loses in my book because it sounds a tad archaic in parts and then borrows from an old classic. Three friends is much more representative of the band's general sound and therefore more tolerable.
