Long-time lurker, first-time poster here...
I'm basically appealing for any help in finding bands I may not already know that you would recommend based on the fact that I LOVE

How about Tasavallan Presidentti "Milky Way Moses" or Stevie Wonders "Innervisions". I read an article on Wigwam many years ago, where the band members were saying how crazy they were about Innervisions during the "Fairyport" and "Being " sessions. I don't know. Wigwam, Zappa, and Steely Dan were in classes by themselves. It would be hard to imitate any of them. Never heard Jellyfish.

Haikara's s/t debut from 1972. Fairly eclectic. There is some great tracks on it.

I know this reply is coming a tad late, but if you're still interested (and why wouldn't you be?!) get a hold of anything by the now deceased (2008) premier Finnish bass player/multi-instrumentalist Pekka Pohjola. (pronounced
PO'-yo-la. He was truly a gifted composer and arranger, sought after by the likes of Frank Zappa, and I am so happy to have been introduced to his music. If you haven't heard his many fantastic solo albums, you may have heard him on 3 Wigwam albums, the best probably being "Fairyport", an absolute classic.

Yeah I second Pekka  Especially Harakka Bialoipokku does the trick. His first outing is terrific as well - sounds more like Canterbury to me though. Also try Secret Oyster, Aera, Etna(Italy), Kraan, Lotus(Sweden) and Kornet(Sweden). ------------- “The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. Wigwam: Fairyport, one of their best...
Pekka Pohjola: Visitation, B The Magpie, Mathematician's Air Display (with Mike Oldfield), basically anything by this guy is awesome...as in most progressive music, his songs really develop with each passing movement. They may start out slow and serene, but go places you would never expect. So let the song play out and give it a few listens before forming your opinion.
