Welcome to Semi-finals Division 1 of Battle of the Prog Bands! This time, our two contenders are Genesis and King Crimson. Vote for your favorite, and the band with the most votes will move onto the Finals. Please do not vote unless you have listened to at least one album by both bands. Here is the tournament thus far:  Schedule for Upcoming Matches Semi-finals Division 2 - November 13 Finals - November 18 Final Results - November 24 About a year ago I would have said Genesis. Now I say King Crimson. Unparalleled in the Rock world in general as far as re-inventing themselves and innovation goes.

...Genesis, you know that you have my eternal love. But my vote rests in the court of the Crimson King this time round. I've always felt that King Crimson were one of the most "progressive" of all the bands in prog-rock. ------------- All your hearts now seem so far from me, It hardly seems to matter now. |

This one is sooooooooo hard. Both have an amazing body of work and huge influencial power in the world of rock and progressive rock.
I feel though that in the main stream rock avenue, Genesis is more influential, while KC was not as broad. I also feel the body of work goes to Genesis, more recognized, more influential.....but so hard as In the Court is so huge of a production.....
Genesis is my 2nd favorite band of all time........I'm fighting the urge....I've got to take some time on this one.....

Yay, I can vote in this one...even though I think their debut is overrated, it's gotta be King Crimson for me. Genesis never made an album like Red, Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Lizard, Discipline, or Islands (or any of the other KC albums, as I don't dislike any of them).

I love both pretty much equally, but KC has a slight edge in my heart. Plus, they never made a bad album.Yes would have had my vote if they were in this, though. -------------  |

Must King Crimson win every single poll? I don't remember seeing a poll where they lost. I love King Crimson but I'm amazed that even Genesis can't put up a good fight against the Crimson King.

Such a sentimental happening, this poll. Genesis is very good, but als overrated IMHO. Tresspass, Nursury Cryme and Foxtrot are all pretty good, but after that the band became poppy and romantic which ruined a lot of otherwise good song-writing. King Crimson always had this brave vision of constant progression and that is to be celebrated. I don't like some of their 'Crimso-metal'-album that much, but albums like the debut, the second, Lizard and Red make this one of my favorite bands. Other bands that I might have voted for if added to the poll: Magma and SBB. The latter should have gotten way more attention in this poll |

1. Just because somebody prefers Yes to Genesis does not mean they don't happen to also prefer King Crimson to Genesis; there is nothing skewed about that.
2. How can you define a Yes fan? And in any case, many Yes fans are also Genesis fans.
