Okay, so I just stuck this album on, and I was inspired to make a simple poll asking about all of the songs. But then I realized that Echoes would obviously dominate, and for good reason. So I decided to omit the Floyd's third-longest song. Which is your favourite, PA?

For me, it's One Of These Days. It may involve only a single bass note, but it rocks hard.

Of course, if you actually prefer your choice to Echoes, do say so. I'm interested to see that as well.

A Pillow Of Winds, which I consider to be a beautiful and perhaps overlooked song.

What!?
From wikipedia:

Also, I voted for the same song.

One of these days for sure, but also Pillow of Winds is perfect. Saint Tropez is the one to skip.

Well, it is a thoroughly layered bass note played many times, but it's still one note. Wink

...Wait, they do switch to another note briefly. That's still only two notes! Not that the song isn't still amazing- if anything, the fact that they made something as awesome as One Of These Days using just two notes on the bass makes it even more awesome.

One of These Days.  Today, it would have gotten my vote even if Echoes had been an option, though that would be subject to change.

Meddle in order
Echoes
One of these days
seamus
san tropez
fearless
a pillow of winds

Echoes and One of these days are fantastic.
Seamus and San Tropez are fun songs.  Good for what they are.
fearless is OK  and a pillow of winds is a skip.  Don't like DG's guitar on that song.  About the only song in their canon that I can say that.

Definitely One of These Days. The rest is basically filler, as far as I'm concerned.

Seamus the dog with zero votes, ouch.

I absolutely adore the song One Of These Days, the rest to me seem to be kind of average PF.

Definitely One Of These Days.  I've always had a very complicated relationship with Meddle...OoTD and Echoes are pure, unadulterated genius, but everything else feels extraneous.  Pillow of Winds is a pretty decent track, but Fearless is - easily - my least favorite Floyd track of all time.  It does less than nothing for me.  As for Seamus and San Tropez...they don't feel like dedicated songs.  A little filler, fleshing out an album that should have been composed of three tracks.

C'mon.  They could totally have stretched One Of These Days into a side-long track...Wink

One of these days was bound to win this poll from the beginning; that's my vote by the way. For me this and Echoes are the only great songs on this album, but A Pillow of Winds and Fearless are somewhat OK for me too.

One Of These Days. For many reasons. One being that really thudding drumming that appears in it. Just before Mason starts regular drumming. Thats also a good bit. A tune full of good bits actually. And nothing else by Floyd quite like it. A moment of genius.

Ok, I based on your current avatar Finnforest, I would like to submit to the general population that when you include a picture of someone as your avatar or in your signature, you should also include, somewhere in there who is in the picture.  Who is the red headed singer...umm...her music intrigues me.

"A Pillow of Winds" is beautiful, but not entirely to my liking.  "Fearless" is equally nice, but drags on a little too long.  "San Troupez" I actually find rather pleasant.  "Seamus" is the only song on the album that's downright lousy.

But "One of These Days" is a truly great song, and one of the best album-opening tracks in prog history.

Yeah, I like me some San Tropez. It's a nice song, with some of that gorgeous jazz in there that I like to indulge in. Seamus is just meh for me, really. I suppose it's nice to wind down with, especially in preparation for Echoes.

A Pillow of Winds.   Everything just blends together perfectly.  I'm at peace with mysefl when that song's on.

One of These Days is a hot contender though.  That was a favorite for many years, but it's worn out its welcome a little.

Echoes is obviously the best song on the album, but apart from it, I like Fearless very much, followed by One of These Days...

While I wasn't allowed to vote in this poll, I do want to add my input. It is a tie between One of theses days...I & Seamus. I would be very hard pressed to pick one over the other.

I very vividly remember the first time I listened to this album.  Started off perfect, became a little less perfect, then a lot less perfect.  Thankfully this was one of the final Floyd albums I picked up, otherwise it might have put me off the band.  Now I just assume that Echoes was a monumental undertaking that consumed the band's creativity, leaving some less-than-polished dregs to round out the tracklist.  Although all of the tracks have grown on me considerably over the years, except for Fearless.  My least favorite Floyd track, even taking into account the stuff on The Final Cut.

EDIT: Just realized I included the anti-Fearless ramble in my first post.  Siento.

At least the latter amuses me.

In all seriousness, I don't think Fearless is a terrible song.  I just think that, for one reason or another, it completely fails to engage me in any way.  These things happen from time to time.
