I just got back from Zappa Plays Zappa, and it was amazing.  That was my third time seeing them over the years and they do not dissapoint.  They are an insanely-tight eight-piece consisting of Dweezil Zappa - Guitar, Scheila Gonzalez - Saxophone, Flute, Keyboards & Vocals, Pete Griffin - Bass, Billy Hulting - Marimba, Mallets & Percussion, Jamie Kime - Guitar, Ben Thomas - Vocals, Trumpet, Joe Travers - Drums & Vocals and Chris Norton - Keyboards & Vocals.

This show was part of the Frank Zappa 70th Birthday Tour and the setlist was designed to reflect the occasion.  Opening was The Gumbo Variations from Hot Rats which had the room shaking.  Then the Apostrophe album in its entirety with special Frank video accompaniment from 1974.   Following highlights included Dinah Moe Humm, Inca Roads, Baby Snakes, I Promise Not To Come In Your Mouth, Cosmik Debris, Jones Crusher - with an encore of Titties & Beer and a near-lethal version of Muffin Man.  Do not pass up an opportunity to catch this tour.

Billed as a celebration - performed as a celebration.  Happy Birthday Frank - your boy did you proud.

Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974, it's a scientific fact.

^ I saw them here in Warsaw last year in June. They were great indeed! Clap

Plus, I've got Dweezil's autograph on my ticket. Big smile

Frank Zappa is a great musician and not only.. And it is awesome that his son continues his doing!
BTW did you know that FROM.UZ band dedicated their third album Seventh Story to Frank Zappa?

You mean the dvd of the first show of Zappa plays Zappa. It's really good! I was hoping another from the latest tour but it doesn't look like there is going to have one...

FRANK ZAPPA'S MUSIC IS SO VAST AND DWEEZIL'S BAND SO TIGHT THIS TOUR CAN KEEP ON PLAYING FOREVER. EVERY CONCERT BRINGS PLEASANT SUPRISES, OLD FAVORITES AND NEW APPROACHES TO FRANKS' COMPOSITIONS. SAW THEM TWICE, ONE IN L.A. AND THEN IN MEXICO CITY, WHERE I LIVE. WOULD LOVE TO ATTEND ANOTHER CONCERT SOON.

One of the best shows of all time in my opinion.  They interact with the fans very well.  Another great show in my opinion is Transatlantic...

On the Prognation I saw with DT, ZpZ, BigElf, and Scale the Summitt, ZpZ were on a completely higher musical level than everyone else. Is was mindboggling. I'm a DT fan and they put on a good show, but ZpZ picks many of the hardest songs Zappa ever wrote, plays them flawlessly, and does it with love and good humor. Dweezil's physical skills are far beyond his father's, though of course the creative genius is all Frank's. Definitely worth seeing.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.
