I'm actually surprised he hasn't been added yet! I know there are quite a few people on the site that have listened to his latest record; 'the Drift.' | The sample includes dark ambient possibly but not prog avant for sure. Scott Walker for years was baroque pop singer, indie rock artist, ok - experimental rock artist at his best but hardly has relations with avant garde,and even more - with avant prog IMO.Can't imagine him on PA. |

I actually would be pleased to see him here - After hearing parts of The Drift I had to have serious counselling - No, seriously Walker has the darkest music I have heard since Comus. It could even be RIO as well as avant prog. -------------

The music could be dark, but it doesn't mean it's avant, or even related though. There are dark (metal), dark (ambient) and some others.
Another thing is Walker had long discography and there are no avant albums at all (at least as much as I know, for sure I didn't hear all), from what I heard there even aren't prog albums. So even if few or some prog-related songs could be found, it's not enough reason to add him on PA |

His music is indefinable at times.... maybe it is prog related in some ways. It is incredibly experimental and deeply unsettling music. -------------

I can agree in some sense his music is unusual and experimental. But there is no "prog", more dark ambient and neo-decadence. From prog -related possibly David Sylvian has some similar moments. Another thing - you can check some other Walker albums (songs from different periods), there are more different genres mixed, but again - experimental,but hardly progressive. I believe, you perfectly remember long-lasted discussion about Bjork, one main her music description was "experimental, but hardly progressive". IMO there is similar case. |

I just listened to "Jolson and Jones", which I found rather catchy (not frightening to me) and that I would think sufficiently on the chamber rock side a la Art Zoyd and Univers Zero to be readily considerable. Listening to another track now (track 9 -- cool harmonica partthat reminds of Morricone's Man with Harmonica), and so far I don't see why he wouldn't be includable. I had listened to music of his before as it's been suggested a couple of times, but never got evaluated (not on progfreak) -- hopefully third time is the charm. In an earlier thread I thought Crossover as a possibility too but I guess that was more based on earlier material. ------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me. |

| I only have The Drift. I think if he had releasd it under a different name - like "Scott Walkers Twisted World" or something like that XD then it would be easy because we could just add that album. I haven't listened to his earlier stuff but from what I hear in his earlier years he was more pop oriented. |

| His album Tilt, while a bit more accessible than The Drift, would also fit well in avant I think. Having his pop albums here is more of an issue with how the site works, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time (re: Invisible Touch). |

Yeah people moan about how an artist had a significant "non-prog" phase but by that reckoning Genesis should be out.
Scott Walker's prog phase only encompasses his last three albums but why not include just those albums? I've never really understood this sites tendency to lump whole discogs together, causing problems like listing Jethro Tull's Under Wraps album under Progressive Folk.
