I saw a poll on here of the best Pink Floyd openers so I decided to make one of the best Pink Floyd closers. So take your pick. I'm stuck between Echoes, Brain Damage, Shine On, and High Hopes. But I'd probably go with Echoes even though I feel like it's the obvious and cliche choice. Or High Hopes b/c it's such a great way to end their career. I don't know, I'll see what everyone else votes and then make my decision off that.

Echoes all the way! It's almost like an EP in itself.

Those same ones would be my choices, no other song comes close to them. I leave Shine on out because for me it's only half a song, as well as Eclipse (for me, Brain Damage / Eclipse are one song, there's no way I can hear the one without the other). So, that leave Echoes and High Hopes... Indeed, the obvious choice is Echoes. However, special mention must go to High Hopes, because it's not only a perfect album closer, but the perfect closer to their whole career (they should have ended their shows in that tour with that song!!!, being thus the last song they had ever sung together).

Tough choices!!!

Echoes, Brain Damage/Eclipse, Shine On, 2 Suns, Sorrow and HIgh Hopes are all real good closers.  The first 3 are a tier above the next 3.  Got to be Echoes.

(Of course Echoes is one of the great masterpieces of all prog music)

That being said, I do vote for High Hopes because, as has been mentioned before, it sums up the history and legacy of Pink Floyd in a single track (or at least as much as such a thing can be possible).  The guitar solo is incredibly moving, and the lyrics are a first-hand account of the rise and fall of the greatest band ever. From Syd Barrett's unconventional vision, to Dark Side of the Moon's triumph, to the descent into "desire and ambition," High Hopes is the essence of Pink Floyd.

Also worth mentioning:
Bike: A catchy tune, and an early example of the band's love for non-musical sounds.
Jugband Blues: Syd Barrett's disjointed but heartfelt song of departure from Pink Floyd

I actually just finished listening to that album before logging on... I agree, it is a powerful and underrated song.

But I still think "Eclipse" is their best closer, so I'm giving that one my vote.  Pink Floyd sure did know how to end an album, though.

Echoes, just before Shine On VI-IX. But Bike, Jugband Blues, Absolutely Curtains and High Hopes are excellent album closers.

In this case I gave three votes to Brain Damage/Eclipse, two ones to Echoes and one vote to Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

So many great ones, but, I had to go with Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX). Brain Damage/Eclipse is a close second. It just doesn't get any better than those two as closers for me . The perfect endings to two perfect musical journeys.

Shine On Part IX is the most glorious way anyone could close an album. Especially following the previous parts. Eclipse and High Hopes are just amazing too.
I would consider Echoes more of an independent track, not as cohesive with the rest of the album as the previous two, although its last minutes are one of the best ways to end a masterpiece too.

I've got to go with the majority and say Echoes - it's one of my favourite tracks of all time.  Other contenders are High Hopes and also Sorrow from the surprisingly unpopular and, I think, very underrated A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

They are better at opening albums (or bookending albums in some cases).

Jugband Blues is really fitting, whereas Echoes is a whole side so it wouldn't really matter where it was on the album.

Echoes could be an album by itself, i really like it. my vote goes for it.

also, i think Dogs would have made a hell of a closer ("who was dragged down by the stone.....")
and regarding the wall, i feel The Trial is more of a closer than Outside the Wall.

ps: we should start similar polls, best rush closer, best dream theater closer, best x closer, and so on. i like this

As a closer to a concept album Brain Damage/Eclipse is undefeatable (does this word exists?); maybe The Who's "We're not gonna take it"'s See me feel me section came closer but it's not as succint and briliant as this one. But I vote for the album last track itself without paying atention to what came before it, so it must be Echoes. As multiple votes are permited (what ruins any thread) I pick Sorrow because it's the best cut on PF' comeback album. And I like it too.

Shine On...because it's my favorite piece of music.
Sorrow because it's such a dramatic end to an otherwise melancholy album.
High Hopes because it's so beautiful and it turned out to be the very last Floyd song.

I really wanted to go with anything else but after playing each in my head I must vote ECHOES.

Interstellar Overdrive much underated. I could've gone Absolutely Curtain or even Outside the Wall. Brain Damage/Eclipse awesome as well. Floyd knows how to close an album.

Sure enough, this is a multiple vote poll.  There is one very keen fan of High Hopes out there.

It's a good poll. In my opinion the best is between High Hopes and Brain damage/Eclipse (Shine on you could be there too). It's really difficult.

Brain damage/Eclipse is my choice. Just a great way of finish an album, especially when the lyrics talks about the album title.

Echoes is the Floyd's masterpiece, but I have to say Jugband Blues because of the history context. Even if I think that Pink Floyd became better when Syd left, his last song was the best way to end an album, and I think It's the best of the Barret'S compsitions with Astronomy Domine

I like mine Sunny Side Up! WinkLOL. Yes but in all seriousness, Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is an overlooked song on probably Floyd's most overlooked album. Hard choice though because theres Echoes, which is a monster of a piece, Shine On which is such an uplifting song and then you have the very brief but nostalgic, powerful Eclipse - perfect way to end Dark Side. I don't think they could have done it any other way.
