A somewhat more obscure group of albums. I voted for Octave, which I think is among the most wildly underappreciated albums of all time. Among other things, it has three of the Moodies' best ballads. (Crest was my second choice).

The Piece gets a lot of flak for them stripping down their instrumentation.

Probably Octave or Missing Piece, not sure. Afraid of Sunlight gets alot of attention, if not here.
Good to see you so active again maani!

Magnification is a great record and is particularly important because it has the best piece of Yes music since the late 70's---a short, moving masterpiece---with great Howe guitar work----In the Presence of....

Yes' Magnification has become one of my go-to CDs over the years-- I love the energy of the opening title track and the tasteful orchestrations, and feel the sublimity of the closing of "In the Presence Of - Turn Around and Remember" rivals "Heart of the Sunrise" and "Endless Dream".

Obscured By Clouds might be my favorite Pink Floyd album.

There are some very good albums on that list, but I will plump for Afraid of Sunlight. At the time of release, Q magazine stated that "had it been released by any other band than Marillion, it would be an international smash it", meaning, of course, that the brand name was tainted, rather than the music. It contains some of the strongest material the band ever recorded, and there is barely a weak moment on it.

Obscured By Clouds is also a good (big three star) album in my book. Voted for it, though I must admit I'm a GG junkie that doesn't own the Missing Piece. In a way this does homage to the album.

I'm not so sure about the underappreciation thing, but I am sure that Magnification is a great album, and that Crest of a Knave is a darn good one.

Afraid of Sunlight is probably Marillion's best Hogarth album and a strange appearance in this list. You should have chosen Anoraknophobia

I think the OP meant very good/great albums which did not get the attention or appreciation they deserved. On that basis, your post clearly agrees with him.

Absolutely has to be Obscured By Clouds. I remember buying the album back in the late 90's and popping it into my CD player, not expecting much. I played it...I played it again...and again...and again. Vital in helping me to appreciate instrumentals, and Free Four is probably my favorite piece of cynical iconoclastic upbeat death-musing. Really Roger at his best.

My vote goes to Marillion. The title track is my second fave Marillion-song (after "Neverland").

Crest of A Knave much maligned because it won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal album in 1989 when Metallica was expected to win.
But IMHO Crest of a Knave is a brilliant album and thoroughly deserved the Grammy. So there!

obscured by clouds is my first choice because realy underappreciated by the critics ,here in france , octave comes just after, about this last one , i think wrapped up with a phil travers artwork cover would have helped it to be more appreciated
