Two excellent bands, both stubbornly dragging the twitching corpse of jazz into this new and terrifying century whether it wants them to or not. Both have won considerable favour amongst RIO/avant-prog circles despite neither actively seeking out that kind of audience. The question is, which makes your ears happiest?

Like all my poll threads, this will no doubt be a short-lived affair. Needless to say, only vote if you know both bands.

I voted for Jean Louis. Their debut still sounds sensational and fresh to me. Their brand new release; Morse is top quality too. I only know Led Bib's Sensible Shoes (love it, but JL makes my ears the happiest) so its not entirely fair.

This poll will be on it's third page within 24 hours.

I haven't heard Led Bib, can't vote.

All my polls end that way! LOL

Here's a taste of Led Bib for the uninitiated:

There's enough fandom here to keep this running for a while. Wink

Unfortunately I can't vote as for the moment I don't remember how does Led Bib sound. I'll have to fix that.

Tough call.  I almost want to get the newest Led Bib before I render an opinion.  LOL

Maybe it needs more listens, but Morse was a bit of a disappointment unfortunately.  It just did not grab me like the debut did.

Thanks for the vid, that was really good. Just to keep this poll alive I'll vote for Led Bib Headbanger

Jean Louis

Idk why but Led Bib doesn't do much for me.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

^^ Not that keen on Led Bib too, but Jean Louis floats my boat like water in your faucet. Mmmmmh good!

Really? I've only listened to Morse for the first time this evening but it absolutely blew me away. Their debut was really impressive and it seemed to come completely out of the blue, which I think is why a lot of folks really latched on to it. But whilst that initial element of surprise is gone and obviously can't be recaptured on the new album they still really cranked things up a notch. Tighter compositions, more diverse sounds, every bit as tense and exhilarating as the debut, IMO.

I really, really love Led Bib's softer songs (like Early Morning for example) but am not as keen on their "noisier" jazz.  Jean Louis, on the other hand, is among my favourite bands ever.

I haven't heard enough Led Bib to compare the two yet.

I'm really surprised at the lack of Led Bib-awareness on this thread! They're pretty big in the UK these days (for an experimental jazz band, at any rate). I guess they really haven't made much of an impact across the pond yet...

I'll big it up for Led Bib, although I'm rapidly warming to Jean Louis.

Incidentally, have many of the Jean Louis fans heard much of the Chicago Underground duo/trio/quartet?

Similar instrumentation (in the Trio formation) and use of electronics; jazz is definitely alive and tentatively kicking in the 3rd millennium.

Having no joy embedding the video - here's the link:

I've never met someone in the US who cares about the Mercury Prize, so I don't find it that surprising. Or perhaps, like me, they heard some Led Bib on their Myspace or whatever when they were being hyped last year and found them too staggeringly mediocre to listen to a full album, so they feel like they shouldn't vote. I, however, have no such scruples and am willing to call all the jazz that's snuck into Mercury nominations in-between the Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, British Sea Power, and Arctic Monkeys what it is: HIPSTER JAZZ. Except for Robert Wyatt: I haven't heard anything from Cuckooland, but he's earned an exemption.

I will watch that when I have sound, Syzygy.

Alrighty then! This poll features songs from the heavier bands within the RPI scene. I know there are tons of others I didnīt include, but I only wanted to focus on the albums I have, and furthermore on the old school scene (I am far too much of a newbie on the current and donīt own too much of it sadly). I know I promised to do a poll featuring Rockyīs Filj and Cervello, but somehow they just didnīt seem to fit in this one eitherLOL Next time you guys...
Anyways without further ado: Which one of these 10 rockinī pomodoros do you prefer?

EDIT: Goodbye Spam links.
