I saw before 2 minutes that there was this poll in 2006. Well, let's see what you believe and prefer now. Dream theater is one of my favorite bands but I voted Fates warning.Because they are less technical.

Though I do enjoy all three, it's Dream Theater for me, hands down.

I vote Fates Warning. Their music has always been more interesting to me. But who knows, maybe Dream Theater will super evolve since Portnoy is gone.

You do know that they toured together, right?

I SAW THEM here in Portland!

FW was an acquired taste for me at the time. Queensryche, was nice, but I really thought that they were too "famous" or too "big" for their own good. The whole show was more about their big name, than the music itself. DT, on that show made the other two bands look, and sound weak. And Labrie was in fine form. And this was the show that the encore was the Who song, and Labrie kicked butt on it, too!

Since then, for me, I have seen DT twice more, and they were disappointing, and their emphasys was more on their loudness and guitar and drums, than it was the music ... at least in that first show, the music stood out way better and much more interesting, than what they showed later, which came off as an oversized ego!

Ok, thank you for your reply. Maybe you're right. I don't know. They will come here in Greece on August 2nd. But I won't go. Because I want to see them with Portnoy.

I like Dream theater more overall, but Fates Warning is phenomanal in thier own way and Operation Mind Crime is a great Queensryche album. I'm stil on the fence about Empire though.

to me

Dream Theater > Fates Warning > Queensryche

Queensryche's one of my favorite bands, primarily for their Rage for Order-Warning-Mindcrime-Empire-Promised Land material. Nothing else really comes to mind when I think of them.

I'd place Dream Theater and Fates Warning on the same level in my heart - great, technical, catchy (sometimes) powerish-prog metal inspired by Iron Maiden and Rush. Neither hit my heart. Neither blow my mind. Both entertain me at times.

We all know the obvious winner here, and the poll wasn't really needed to know it LOL

Much as it pains me though, I have to chuck another vote for DT. I don't know what it is...but Fates Warning never really sat well with me. I've listened and just not my cup o tea. Queensryche I like even less.

Though out of all the "classic" prog metal bands you missed one, the one which would get my real vote:

Psychotic Waltz!

depending the period ,

I love DT from start to  Scenes included, then they  gone on other paths, love Queensryche from start to Promised land, then gone to other horizons never came back really

and love Fates Warning but only with Alder on voice, never enjoyng Arch at all

so probably will be a band called Warning Theater of Queensryche for me

I enjoy all three. Back in the early nineties I would have said Dream Theater, but I´ve kind of lost interest in their music with each new release. Queensr˙che has released a few good albums and lot of not so interesting ones, so it´s Fates Warning for me. I enjoy most of their output.

I never warmed to Fate's Warning. Queensryche was my favorite band for a large chunk of my life. Unfortunately, I dislike most of their output after Promised Land. OM2 had some good moments but I didn't like the change in sound after DeGarmo left.   DT is still releasing good material today and has been more consistent than Queensryche overall, but with a few less shining moments. DT still wins for me.

More heavy prog, please!

Queensryche. The worst song on Mindcrime is better than the best song on Scenes.

I'll give the vote to Queensryche, even though I like all of them pretty equally. It really all depends on my mood.

Dream Theater hands down for me, instrumentals especially, also even if at times I know and cringe at the vocals, knowing it's coming LOL hahahaha this said, I still like James vocals overall a lot.Hug

I don't know Fates Warning very well at all

I don't get all the love for Operation Mindcrime
it's a very average album for me

DT has some great moments so I would vote for them  over Queensryche

no vote

I would have said Queensr˙che, if not for Empire.
