I would like to express my admiration to the adminstrator on how this site is moderated. After being here now for almost a year I have seen very little in the way of members engaging in verbal insults and members being banned. For the most part I have seen very little of the adminstrator and moderators governing influence over members and not using thier appointed power to manipulate, anger, entice, insult other members and to inflate thier egos.
Being on another forum, and yes it will name it, Classic Rock Forum, what I have mentioned above wasn't the case there. The adminstrator was an hypocrite and had a stable of, not all, of moderators that are egocentric and a couple who actually I considered trolls and one of them went as far as bumping a couple members threads/posts on a regular basis as he felt threatened by thier musical knowledge. Anyway the site is a lightwieght, mainstream bubblegum pop, AOR community.
As far as I have seen this site is basically regulated by the members who are mature and considerate and don't have any hidden agenda. I have witnessed some heated debates but it seems both parties don't take it past a certain point and I think moderators jumping in proclaiming thier principles and values only help to incite the debate even more.
Kudos to the community.

Agreed. The quality of community is the main thing that keeps me here, despite my tastes shifting in other areas than prog. Even the retards are better here than on the large forums that I visit.

 Agreed.
I have other interests beside prog as well but there isn't any other music forum out there that I have found to my liking. The few I have checked out the moderators seem to get in the way. Too many rules and usually they think they are entitled to undue supremacy. F/ing idiots. Lame and weak.

You must avoid the politics and religion threads, too

It works because it is a pretty cool forum which means people want to stick around. And we know that if we abuse each other beyond reasonable limits, there is this entity named "Tony" who will leave no inch of Earth unscorched as his terror rains down......when such a mythical figure hovers above, you will rarely have problems with misbehavior.
The Admin team allows a very open exchange of ideas and even heated debate....but if anyone is truly abusive to another member, that person will be dealt with.

Yeah, Tony's a real a****le and he knows how to find our IP addresses so we pretty much toe the line just to keep him off our backs....

Seriously though, I troll a couple other music forums and also some sports ones and I agree that the community here is definitely the most mature, inclusive and welcoming of them all. Glad you see that too!

Thanks for the comments cannon, much appreciated.
We are lucky here in having a stable (physically if not mentally!) admin team, which means we are able to offer a degree of consistency. They may not always agree with it, but the members know where they stand re what is acceptable and what isn't. Likewise, we have a solid base of great long time members, who make the site what it is. Many of those could step in as admins without any problem at all. Most of the time the forum is therefore self regulating.
We do have our moments though!

Well, there is a heck of a lot of passion in this forum. But that is passion directed at the music and not at members here (although Micky and Raff will now file a protest......protest accepted). Well, I meant in the form of abuse of members. I believe I am not the only one who treats PA as a welcome break from the normality........ ie the nasty world outside ProgArchives and this forum.

The forum is the best I have been involved and actually feels like home sometimes... a friend or piece of advice comes just when you need it.

Wise words, Torodd. I'm just the same. In fact, I wish that PA was the real world and normality a lot of the time
It is nice to see praise given. We don't do it often enough really, because the admins do a superb job here.
