I love The Bad Plus up til they added vocals, and Mouse On The Keys. Anything else out there in the same genre?
Same with HYpnotic Brass Ensemble, I'd love to have more music along those lines

Just placed an order the other day, going to start with the debut and then jump around a bit, looking forward to it. Saw a bit of her doing 'Spain/Concerto...' with Corea on youtube and thought it was interesting too.
Thanks again, Takeshi!

Hiromi is the obvious call as is the Esbjorn Svenssen Trio (EST), e.g. Strange Place For Snow.Brad Mehldau choice of covers (e.g. Lennon & McCartney, Nick Drake) on a number of his solo albums may delight. But dig around, the old stagers such as Chick Corea or Herbie Hancock (e.g. New Standards) might appeal.
One of the godfathers of nu.fusion, Bugge Wesseltoft has a new album with Hendrik Schwartz, Duo, which seems to push the boundaries of nu.fusion withreal time, lap top treatement by Schwartz of Wesseltoft largely playing acoustic piano (which may or may not be "treated" itself)>

Not completely similar, but plenty of groove going on and a large brass element in the following, by Afroskull.

By the time I came back to this thread to see this I had already discovered Souljazz Orchestra, along with Portico Quartet and Youngblood Bras Band, both well worth checking out. I will look into Fela Kuti, never heard of him/her/it/them

The debut absolutely kills it for me... Joy, XYZ, 010101 Binary System, Dancando No Paraiso... incredible!
Not to mention the drummer David Dicenso being one of the most tasteful I've ever heard.

Bruford & Moraz did some very nice work together, the show I saw in Chicago years ago was sublime.

You saw Bruford/Moraz? Lucky man, you. The live on In Tokyo is hot, but I wish there was a DVD release of it.
Re: the topic...Greg Walker is selling Govea's CD Danza Urbana. They're a trio based in Mexico City. More prog than jazz, but there's a good deal of piano on it. About half piano/organ and synth/Tron, give or take.

Neither and both jazz / prog, but wonderfully piano driven: http://music.tangledthoughtsofleaving.com/album/deaden-the-fields" rel="nofollow - http://music.tangledthoughtsofleaving.com/album/deaden-the-fields
Only just got it, but possibly my favorite release of 2011. Frank

That kind of stuff must have started with Soft Machine and Brian Auger, people like that. But it still sounds like Jazz to me, not Rock.
