For clarification (at least in this thread), Funk Rock would be considered Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus, "The Crunge" by Led Zeppelin, etc.
Jazz Funk is most (60's/70's) fusion (Herbie Hancock).
(More parenthesis for the fun of it!)

you forgot the options :
- "funk-metal" (Fishbone, FFF, Incubus, Infectious Grooves, I Mother Earth, Street Sweeper Social Club...)
- "disco-funk"
- "all of the above"
------------- "Magma was the very first gothic rock band" (Didier Lockwood)

"The Crunge" beats every Jazz funk i'we ever listned to, so my vote goes to Rock.
But Stanley Clarke comes close on Schooldays.

Funkadelic is the first band that comes to my mind when mentioning funk rock.

What about "regular" funk?
Anyway, I choose jazz-funk of course.

I like both, but I prefer funk rock since that's what I'd assume includes Parliament/Funkadelic, etc.

Funkadelic maybe. But I always found Parliament had leaned more towards jazz, or "classic" funk (not necessarily rock or jazz)

The Crunge is god-awful.
I'd say P-Funk ;) Parliament's Mothership Connection is the funk.
Anyway, I'll vote for jazz funk. I do like funk rock though, the Red Hot are pretty solid at it, and well there's the 70s funk rock like Trapeze or Bolin-era Deep purple.

Good question.
After JMA, I only came here to see the Book thread. But since I just resurrected my rock/prog listening, with the Zappa, some VdGG, etc, I thought "why not?".
But like you see, I'm posting subtley.

Yea I go back and forth, it's just; JMA is not active enough for me to stay for more than 10-15 minutes, unless there's a really interesting thread going on.
Glad you're getting you rock feet wet again. I'm the opposite, Ive been trying to get my jazz feet wet again, but I keep getting distracted by other music.
So, ummmmmm... yea..... funk! GET DOWN!!!

Go listen to the album Maggot Brain by Funkadelic. Then let's have this whole discussion about funk over again.
