I just went through the top 10 songs on iTunes, and I'm torn between laughing out loud and crying.  I know many people like music that is stupid, shallow, and repetitive, but to actually hear these shakes my hope in humanity.  It seems like it's getting worse.

I actually quite enjoy "Pumped Up Kicks." It's an incredibly clever and ironic view of society.
And god dammit it's catchy.

Oh cool, The Head and the Heart made one of the top 100 albums.

97 is respectable.

But yeah, iTunes is going to have popular music. That's how it... works.

That is not...The Head and the Heart? Tanner, Wikipedia describes them as indie folk-pop and they opened for Vampire Weekend, that is enough for me.

I actually kind of like the Mumford and Sons song that says f**k, but that's only because I'm emo.

I don't give a fat rat's behind! I enjoy them so I don't care how they're labeled or who they opened for!

(I bought the album because it was cheap and had an interesting cover, alright?)

But seriously man, you gotta lighten up. Who's the music elitist here?

Seriously, even for indie rock. And people everywhere like them somehow. They were the recommended album in an issue of Glamour (maybe Cosmo, and I was at the barber and the only other thing was the BEEFY MAN LIFT WEIGHTS magazines...), and I even saw someone listening to them on I Hate Music, which is the one place on the internet I thought I could escape them.

There's no point, the worst one of all time will always be the one that guy made about a Youtube video of him throwing up after drinking ipecac. Although it seems it was finally deleted at some point after being moved to JFF from General, I can't find it.

The calling a musician talented is only a more oblique way of saying that you like him/her. It doesn't actually mean anything.

I wonder how you came to know them that well, if you hate them that much, dont listen to it.
I think a lot of the people involved in making sh*tz (not just music) are often very talented people, its just a matter of how highly money is rated in this world.

I like Vampire Weekend, they're good at what they do (and I like that kind of stuff). But they can sound annoying to many ears.

I don't get why Mumford & Sons get so much praise. I found their best album just a bit above average.

Contra wasn't all that great. I mean I know it's the typical hipster line, but their debut was way better.
I love Animal Collective, though lots of people seem to hate them for some reason
