Banks is a brilliant composer, but when it comes to artistic freedom and expressions I have more admiration for Kerrry Minnear.

Very, very tough. Love both of these guys and they are both spectacular players. Lean a little more toward Banks. Other keyboard players-notably Keith Emerson-talk about Banks as the best they've ever seen, so vote Banks, but only by a tiny bit.

Tony Banks; for his composer skills and keyboard playing!

Banks (pre-Abacab), but I love both.

Tony Banks, because although he never was a virtuoso player, he could always work very well with sounds and moods. Plus he could play complex stuff, more pop / rock stuff, movie music, classical stuff...

I regard Banks as a middle-order Keyboard player, a good journeyman, certainly not in the same breath as Emerson, Ritchie, Wakeman, but he gets my vote on this occasion.

A good matchup.  I give Banks a slight edge for his knack for melody.

I like both but Banks gets the vote.

Kerry is the better player.  The vote would have been tougher if it had also included their merits as composers. Kerry is more interesting but Banks has more command over structure, something that I am attracted to in music.

Banks - he is the true heart of the classic Genesis sound.  Not that Minnear is second-rate, because he isn't.

Kerry very much so. I have a love-hate relationship with both bands. But Kerry is the better player and also the better composer (considering he composed most of GG's stuff. Plus, considering he has one of the most beautiful voices in prog...)

Kerry Minnear for me....

No one said that this was suppose to be a keyboardist poll, so I vote for Kerry's gorgeous voice! Tongue

...although Tony is surprisingly good as well! I wonder why he didn't continue with this beautiful voice.

Edit: Bummer, it did actually say that in the question... Embarrassed

Maybe they should get together and do a prog album.  The contrast in styles might actually work.

Tony Banks for me; instantly recognizeable!

You're right in that Tony never did the virtuoso stuff but I think he could pull it off. I saw Wakeman once and was left wide eyed and desperate to see Tony do the same. Just show off a bit !!

Tony for me all day here though

Great singing by Tony in the "Shepherd" video, indeed! I vote Banks.

I'll go with Kerry... his percussive / funky playing is something pretty unique... I think Tony Banks sounds a little robotic while Kerry's flow sounds so natural
