Gardenia is a relatively new but ouststanding progressive rock band from the northern Argentinian city of Salta. I found about this band by their multiple collaborations with the extreme prog metal act Random. (I could not find any bio of them (not even in Spanish), so I guess I will have to keep on searching).

So far, the band has released one EP called Sidera Visus, an album called Invocación A Los Pájaros and a DVD/EP called UMMO, all of them for free, they can be streamed/downloaded from their website (which has links to Bandcamp:
http://gardeniaespacial.blogspot.com/p/audiosdescargas.html" rel="nofollow - http://gardeniaespacial.blogspot.com/p/audiosdescargas.html )

Their sound is an eclectic mix of the argentinian northern folk music and heavy psychedelic rock with lots of complex arrangements, with of references to Astor Piazzolla, classic Argentinian prog acts such as La Máquina De Hacer Pájaros and all Luis A. Spinetta projects (mainly Almendra, Invisible and Spinetta Jade) and international bands such as The Mars Volta, Tool, 70's King Crimson and Pink Floyd.

A few samples:

(If you want to start checking quickly, start on track 2, the first is a long slow intro)

'Un Punto Azul', From their DVD/EP UMMO (2011):  http://vimeo.com/23611439" rel="nofollow - http://vimeo.com/23611439

You'll find a short but reasonably informative bio of the band in Spanish here: http://www.rock.com.ar/bios/17/17422.shtml" rel="nofollow - http://www.rock.com.ar/bios/17/17422.shtml

Excellent find! I'm listening to the "Ummo" EP now and it has Eclectic written all over it. The similarity with Omar Rodriguez Lopez' music hints for Eclectic too. I'll notify the team.

Under evaluation Wink
The Eckie boys have a 30 or 40-odd long backlog, so it may take a little while for them to get to these guys.

It is still under evaluation by the Eclectic team with one yes vote and one better suited to Heavy Prog vote.  Give it more time as they have a lot of evaluations, as Andy said, to take care of.  They have a team thread with a  chart that tracks progress, so it wouldn't be forgotten by them.

Great news Thumbs Up, one tends to think that with so many suggestions on this forum, they might fall into oblivion within a couple of months Wacko

Gardenia has been approved for Eclectic.  If anyone has a biography (or can help with one), that would be appreciated.

Okay, I translated the link provided by yam-yam ( http://www.rock.com.ar/bios/17/17422.shtml" rel="nofollow - http://www.rock.com.ar/bios/17/17422.shtml ) and added some other info:

Gardenia is a progressive rock group formed in 2005 in Salta, Argentina, after the dissolution of two relatively known bands from the Saltenian underground scene.

Always with an original sound, but loosely influenced by acts like King Crimson, The Mars Volta, La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros, Pink Floyd, Ástor Piazzolla, Luis Alberto Spinetta's work, folk music, some jazz and blues, Gardenia makes an experimental/progressive approach on music, taking special care of the melodies and vocal parts.

The band's work takes extreme care not only of the music, as a complete set of projections and visual art on their shows and in their lyrics, also heavily influenced by Spinetta's work, the band shows lots of dreamy landscapes, filled with philosophical questions, mythology, love stories and dreams of personal growth.

Gardenia has released so far two EPs (Vol.1 - 2006, Sidera Visus - 2006), one studio album (Invocación a los Pájaros - 2010) and a DVD/EP (UMMO - 2011); all of them show the band's original sound and can be streamed and downloaded for free on the band's Bandcamp page ( http://gardeniaespacial.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow - http://gardeniaespacial.bandcamp.com )

Is this OK? Can I get my appreciation then?? Wacko

Thanks for your help.

Gardenia has been added to Eclectic:

If you wish to edit the personnel of each album, please do so.  I don't know what former members played on what album.

^ Line-ups are for the album pages, which you can edit. Smile

^  I've certainly not been allowed to edit any info on an album page (other than to submit the album addition in the first place). As far as I can make out, a non-collab gets just one chance to get the details right on an album entry they submit. If they screw up anywhere, then only a collab (or admin) can edit the entry subsequently. This even applies to albums you have submitted yourself, so I'm pretty sure Lima96 would have been denied access if he tried to update Epignosis's musicians line-up for 'Invocacion a los Pajaros'. The message that greeted me when I once tried to correct a mistake I had made was "Only Admin and Collaborators can log in to edit albums". Confused

I've updated the albums with the information provided, thanks.

And I do believe yam yam and lima are correct, you need to be a collab to modify album pages after they have been created.

It has to be that way really - the site could rapidly descend into total chaos if anyone could log in and edit any albums they wanted to. However, I do think that you should be able to edit your own album additions - at least for a limited time after you submit them, so that you have a window of opportunity to go back and fix any typos, or bits you might have missed out...

Yep, it would be a nice improvement for the site, specially since many of the band suggestions come from band members themselves.

Thanks Gazzardian for the updates!
