Based on Rush's most recent albums and thier new singles "Caravan", "BU2B", and "Headlong Flight", what are you're expectations?

I'm between promising and unsure. I like Caravan and BU2B, but Headlong Flight slugs for a bit too long for how simple it is.

Geddy's singing sounds good, and his bass playing is top notch like always. Alex sounds good so far, he's the reason i'm feeling a Fly By Night -era tone. Peart is sadly the one that's disappointing me. Uninspired, boring drumming. Ouch

With that i predict a 3* album.

Promising. Still. I think the concept and the book is enough to convince me, along with Caravan.

I'm just grateful to Rush for their massive contribution to music from the series of albums from  2112 through to Moving pictures - some staggering work to be had.

My atttitude to this will be the same as recent efforts by Yes and Ian Anderson - intrigue.

I would be happy if it was as good as those albums (4 stars imo)

Promising definitely. Could be a good four star achievement, really the first since Grace Under Pressure.

Reasonably promising based on the singles.

That said, I expect to be pleasantly surprised more than blown away.

Yeah, I think it's going to be one of their best in a very long time. I mean Snakes And Arrows was decent and Vapour Trails was awesome, but just the fact that this new release is going to have concept is great considering Rush really hasn't done anything like this before. Out of the three singles released so far, my favourite would probably have to be Caravan. I can't believe that was released 2 years ago! Man, time is going by so fast. LOL

I think it's going to be good, but I'm not holding my breath for anything as great as Hemispheres or Grace Under Pressure or Vapor Trails.  Caravan, I think, is the best single so far, while the other ones are rocking but not really emotional or complex enough for my tastes.  I mean, come on, I like BU2B, but couldn't Alex think of anything better to play for the main riff than the tonic and the minor third over and over again?  1-1-3-1-1-3-1-1-3-1 and so on.  I agree with Horizons that Headlong Flight is too long.  After hearing Caravan, I thought this was going to be a brilliant fusion of their modern style with their 70's prog attitude, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm going to buy the album, though, and I'm going to love it anyway, because I like everything that Rush has ever done, and I don't think this is going to be any different.  Just not a masterpiece, that's all.

I'd really like it a lot if they only kept the tracks they played on the tour, now there's too much filler in my opinion. At least they knew what songs to drop from the set list.

Any new Rush release is promising, but they don't always meet my expectations.  At the very least it should be fairly good.

What filler?! I can't think of any. Near the end is amazing with the string of songs: , Hope, Bravest Face, Faithless, Good News First, Malignant, and We Hold On. I think that list is one of their consistent tracking in a loooong time.

I also dislike Grace Under Pressure, it's my LEAST favorite 80's album. Didn't know it had such praise.

I really hope these singles aren't really representative or highlights of this album. I was really disappointed with Headlong Flight. Caravan is great though.

This is a great poll, already prompting some interesting debateClap

For me, it's glass half full. I really want it to be very good, so promising is my vote. The last one was, to me, slightly disappointing, so let's hope they reach the heights again.

I don't know how well people usually like Grace Under Pressure, but I've always loved the cold sound and atmosphere. And it was my first synth-Rush album, maybe that's something as well. I have to really be in the mood for it to enjoy S&A entirely, but sometimes that happens. It's a good album, but just not great in my opinion.

Rush can do very little wrong for me; Headlong Flight has been extensively featured on Planet Rock and it's very good.

I think very promising is my verdict.

I think the way in which people perceive those songs as filler may have to do more with their position in the album than with their actual quality.  It may just be that the style of the album gets old after a while, so that after six or so songs you start to lose interest in the rest of them.  I'm not sure about that because I haven't tried listening to it backwards, but I've had a similar experience with Coldplay's X&Y and I think this might be the same case.

I do genuinely dislike the lyrics to Bravest Face, and I tend to consider Good News First to be second-rate.  But Hope might be my favorite song from the album, it's simply beautiful.

I'm just tired of the brickwalling. The compositions sound all right, but come on. For the modern rock sound, Counterparts and Snakes and Arrows sounded great, but the three songs I've heard from this are just pure sonic sausage. I might have to try to find a vinyl rip if they press it.
