I believe you misspelled "Marillion". I wouldn't bother pointing it out, except that it's in a bit of text that is going to be constantly copied/pasted.

Nomination is about showing love for the tracks, dosnt matter if it stands a chance or not, otherwise it would be
a very boring unhealty process. Less well known tracks will never win, no matter how great they are.
But if we mention them, they may spread just a bit more pleasure.

Love the Budd album myself, was thinking about nominating. Was so much i love form this year.

Prefer the lighter first half of the album, think i would have chosen "A Stream With Bright Fish"

How can I browse all the albums of 1984, not just the top rated ones? Or, how about the 250 lowest rated albums?

I realize that the page is called "Top Prog Rock Music Albums " , but this is after all the Prog Archives, and it should be possible to browse all albums.

I mean, there can't be that many for 1984, can it?

This list has a lot (197) and ratings as low as 1 (nr. 179 only has 4x1 ratings, must be pretty bad)
wont get them much lower than that Big smile

Aha, already? Okay.

Dead Can Dance - Dead Can Dance - A Passage In Time
Camel - Stationary Traveller - West Berlin
Magma - Merci - Otis

I didn't find many songs to consider besides whats already nominated.. I was thinking about a Chilliwack song from an album with 0 ratings (0.00) , Who's Winnin' (straight rock with nice drumming)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNd-n2AGM7o" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNd-n2AGM7o
(but I wont nominate it.)

I also thought of "Taking the easy way out" from Hacketts Til we have faces, one of his weakest albums in my opinion. I like that song though.

I think Clannad should be on PA. One of my favourite albums were released in -84, Legend, by Clannad.
This Mortal Coil could be another potential inclusion.

Both of them are in "Gibraltar encyclopedia of progressive rock", by the way. That's been a reference for me ever since I started using internet.

I dont think its possible, to make a list of unrated albums from the year in question.
We got this http://www.progarchives.com/UnreviewedAlbums.asp" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/UnreviewedAlbums.asp
but its an alfabetic list, you cant sort in it, and it contains a mix of albums/Ep's/singles ect. ect.

One used the be able to search 2500 albums at a time (hat to manually play around with the url a bit) and the list would include non-rated albums.   I requested a Filter: Maximum Average Rating Value feature, including the ability to search albums with no ratings via the "TOP list custom links & filters"search, but it didn't fly.

I would happily nominate three more tracks if you feel you dodn't have enough to start, but I expect you want people who haven't already made a list to make nominations.  I love the 80s -- very strong decade for my tastes, partiucularly as I am a RIO/ Avant Prog fan and there are lots of "classics" of that ilk from that decade.

That setting would make the search feature complete , making it possible to sort out all available albums in portions. Good request, maybe I should re-request it...

But if you have a few more you want in the poll's, its fine. Just put them up.

1984 was quite a prog crop failure. It went the same way as the Merlot grape in the Bordeaux area. To come to three nominations, I have to pick them from one and the same album (Fugazi), so I nominate just two, using lower standards:

Marillion - Fugazi - Incubus
Rush - Grace under Pressure - Red Lenses

Cool, thanks Tamijo.

So here is my second set of three to add to the list:

Thierry Zaboitzeff  - Promethee - Promethee (Part 1A)
After Dinner - Glass Tube - Glass Tube
Skeleton Crew - Learn to Talk - Que Viva/Onwards and Upwards

*Note: Regarding Promethee (on the version I have it's just considered two roughly 20 minutes tracks, one on the A side and one on the B side, so "Promethee Part 1" and "Promethee part 2".   I looked at PA for the later CD release which is split up more, which I can understand.  If following the PA release track info then I will go with "Promethee Part 1A".  Incidentally, Art Zoydian's will recognise themes on this album that are re-worked. I will stick with the PA track listing to make matters easier for you.

Perhaps I'm one of the few that thinks that every prog rock year has been a great year since every year has albums that are very important to me, and I know that every year has many more gems for me to discover (a bountiful harvest that will reveal itself more and more over time).  Maybe some are just not trying to harvest enough, seeking enough, open enough to, or digging deep enough for different kinds of so-called prog crops that do have the potential to satisfy....

The point for me is just getting what you like out there, and sharing one's tastes.  I'm a bit too much of a list-maker. I never expect any of my nominations to win, and the votes themselves are not of much personal interest (not even my own votes are often of much interest to me -- it's the deliberation and consideration part of the process that I prefer when deciding what to vote for or, commonly, if I'll vote at all).  What a person votes for is far less interesting to me than what they say about their decision, and about the music generally, not just what they voted for.

I've discovered a lot of music thanks to polls and topics (more-so in my early days at PA) since when I see a name I'm not familiar with, and if I think it's from someone who has similar tastes so might be something I'd like, then I quite commonly will look into it.  Or I mention that I dodn't know something, and this happens a fair amount, so someone tells me that I should check it out, and I find a lot of great music that way,

But that's my approach.... This would work better for me if all of the choices had youtube clips (at least hyperlinks), but I don't want to post ones since others aren't.

Posted By: Snow Dog
Date Posted: June 02 2012 at 17:34
^I don't mind the occasional youtube clip. It's the flood I have a problem with.LOL I really hate to see one post with about 4 to b10 clips or more. But that's me. I'm  sure it doesn't bother most people at all.

In other words, post them if you like. I'll stay out.Smile

I was uncomfortable posting many clips even before you mentioned it to me -- call it unbridled enthusiasm.  My old computer could not take a lot of rich media before seizing (lack of ram), and "laundry lists" of anything, especially laundry, can be a real turn-off for me.  It's like someone asks for ten recommendations and someone posts thirty choices.  Too many youtube clips become overwhelming, and actually, though I've done lengthy polls with a ton of youtube clip, I think if I wanted to actually expose people to certain music via youtube since I think some would appreciate it, I might have got a better reaction with just a few youtube clips.

I don't often post and listen to my collection a lot, so I like to check out what others are listening to and commonly play youtube clips that are posted, but I know a lot wouldn't want to do that.  And how many would actually want to take the time to listen to all of the tracks in these contests before voting?  I've done it, or at least played enough to know if I'd like something, but there are more worthwile, satisfying, and pressing things to do with one's time.

I would like to see more nominations though, but largely because I think the 80s was a great time for progressive rock/ progressive music, and not just in the RIO/Avant vein (thinking of my particular tastes).  So often I see people saying that the 80s sucked for progressive rock, well I think there's a lot of quality there, and not just in those styles that I particularly like.  If someone likes Neo-Prog, not my cup of tea, but there's a lot of great music of that ilk.  And these polls can be great for discovering obscurities.  Sure the most famous will win, and I don't mean to imply that the most famous aren't good (I think Mama an excellent track, by the way and just wouldn't have nominated it myself because there are many more I love which don't get as much exposure).

A lot of it just hasn't been discovered by most people (me included), and actually, I think there's a hell of a lot of PA worthy material that isn't in the site (I respect the rules though and would not nominate something that I knew was not on this site no matter how prog I feel it is).

^I think you are right. The giants of symphonic had changed in the eighties but there must be a lot of more obscure (to me) music made in that decade.
