Squackett was released today and I'm not sure if anyone else has got it yet but I just finished my first listen and I really enjoy it. It's not too proggy, I would probably put it in crossover, but I already knew that from all of the interviews and the Sea of Smiles EP when I was going into it. The vocals are done in harmonies but Hackett takes lead most of the time which is unfortunate because I prefer Squire's voice, but that doesn't really take anything away and I think it's still a fantastic album. I would probably give it 4 stars. So to anyone else who has heard it, what do you think?

I got it a few days ago and, as of this writing, have listened through it maybe 10 times. It is a grower for sure. The first few listens were while I was working, so I couldn't give it my full attention. Not full blown prog by any account, but some very strong song writing and a pleasing melding of the boys talents.

Honestly, most of the things I buy, prompted from this site, are growers. That's generally the nature of the beast. At this point, I'm at the "I love this record" stage. If you listen closely, you can hear hints of Fish Out of Water... very subtle but awesome.

I may be the only one who feels this way, but I'm kind of glad it's not a Prog Epic kind of thing. God knows I've got hundreds of hours of stuff like that ;-) Just great songs and a great variety of styles from both of them. Just my two cents.

I thought the first tune was the strongest.  The rest kind of fell into an okayish mode for the most part with some good moments mixed in.  I'll probaby still purchase it.

My copy is in the post, and from the samples I have heard, I'm looking forward to it.

i listened to it twice.  i bet it's a grower, but i got other things on my plate, so i'm going to have to hold off.  i was really excited, but on first listen it sounds like just another mediocre hackett album.  he's made the same damn album for years.  also, the production is dated.  sounds like it was produced in 1987.  not to mention, squire's bass is way low in the mix.  my hope was to hear his lead bass lines and voice with hackett's guitars.  nope.  there is a lot of orchestration though.

Here are my thoughts: http://www.therocktologist.com/squackett---a-life-within-a-day.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.therocktologist.com/squackett---a-life-within-a-day.html

It's a very decent album, but I prefer Steve's solo stuff, for sure.

Only listened to it twice and it seems more Hackett than Squire. Would give it a 3 at the moment.

Can't wait to get it, Hackett hasn't made a bad album since Feedback 86.

Here's an interview with both Hackett & Squire that you may find interesting, I enjoyed it:

Sadly seems a bluff.

Nobody (except 4 or 5) members, have even dared to review the album.

Not bad, IMO just average.

Six reviews and 52 ratings, bringing an average rating of 3.37 - good, but not essential.

I would like to see more reviews, especially from PRs & collabs, so as to get a broader taste of how it rates.

BTW - why does it seem a bluff?Confused

Because the expectations were too high for the final result.

Not sure that expectations were ever very high. Stlll doesn't make it a bluff in any case.
