It's about time we had a general thread for this awesome group, don't you think?

Clairvoyant Fortnight
, their new EP (which isn't officially out till the 11th, according to the website) flopped onto my doormat this morning and after just one spin I'm already prepared to state that it's probably their most consistently brilliant offering to date. If they can sustain this kind of excellence for the duration of their next album then I believe their reputation as one of the UK's finest 21st century prog bands will be more or less guaranteed. So many ideas crammed into less than twenty minutes of music - perfectly balanced between dense complexity and deft, catchy hooks... Music that positively begs for an attentive ear. I love this band and I sincerely wish the prog community at large was as excited about them as I am.

For the uninitiated, I think Clairvoyant Fortnight would make an ideal introduction to just what's so exciting and unique about Knifeworld and, coupled with last year's Dear Lord, No Deal EP, it gives a very strong indication of where they've been heading during the transition from solo project to fully-fledged band.

Now is a good time to be excited about Knifeworld.

not bad, i checked out some of their stuff on youtube. they're pretty influenced by Cardiacs, that kinda poppy-post punk w prog vibes. Nice.

I'm debating whether or not to get a copy now (money is tight).

I don't know why we can't more people into this band?  The debut album knocked my socks off.  I also have an autographed copy of Dear Lord No Deal.  I've actually corresponded with Kavus on this site.  He sent me a nice thank you PM for my review of Buried Alone. Big smile

But streaming will do for now.

I'd consider myself a hard copy guy myself, but it's just too expensive, particularly when I have to ship it to Israel. They don't have T-shirts my size :D (I'm tall! Shame on you)

Tagging bandcamp releases with your local area is an increasingly common practice it seems. My guess is that it's for promoters scouring the site for local bands to book. Not a bad tactic, if that's really the case.

So, has anyone else heard the new EP yet? That last track... crikey.

I thought that was great if taken as a single tag.  Maybe if we dropped all the redundant words...
Avant progressive psychedelic hackney pop rock?  A different order perhaps?

Mine's being shipped today, so it should probably get here sometime this year. Tongue
They don't call it snail mail for nothing.  I think it comes into New York and slowly has to work its way through the states to get to Georgia.  No excuse for that really, we've got an international airport here.  It probably gets shipped to Los Angeles and then here for all you know.

Went to the gym and listened to the first album.  Good work out music.

I really like that video, it's endearingly lo-fi.And the whole done-in-one-take thing reminds me of Kavus' mate Max Tundra's video for his tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boIOY5HjbFM" rel="nofollow - Which Song .

So, with the exception of zoviet's welcome contribution up near the top, is this thread just going to be the three of us gushing at one another like every other Knifeworld discussion on PA?

You should deffo check out that album "Parallax Error Beheads You" if you're digging his particular brand of wonky proggy electronic avant-pop. It's one of the best things in the history of things.

I too have been listening to the EP on a multiple-spins-per-day basis. It hasn't left my CD player since it arrived.

Doesn't help that we have a lot of people distracted by that shiny new object by Rush.

Knifeworld have released a http://knifeworld.bandcamp.com/track/dont-land-on-me" rel="nofollow - new song from their forthcoming album - all proceeds from downloads are going towards the completion of said album. It is a f**king juggernaut of a tune.

Woooooohhhhhh!!!!! Thanks for the info David, this is excellent news. Just listened to it once, but I don't want to try it again, I'll save it for the album. I didn't know what to make of it in the first couple minutes but of course that ending has definitely won me over.

I'm so glad there's a thread about them cause they certainly don't get any attention, I can't get more frustrated when such a talented, creative and unique band is so overlooked while other bands recycle their own material for years and gets hundreds of reviews Head on wall. So write more reviews guys! Yes Ori I mean you Tongue

Yeah, I just don't get why Knifeworld continue to be such an under-the-radar thing, especially round these parts. The most plausible explanation I can think of is that it's because they're as unafraid of a catchy pop hook as they are a Henry Cow-eseque jumble of horns and keys. The result is that they're simultaneously too poppy for the avant-prog fans and too avant-prog for the rest.

Whatever the reason, it's a shame, as for my money they're the absolute finest active UK prog band. They deserve a bucketload more recognition than they get.

Maybe album no. 2 will help to rectify that...

Ok so the new album is out already and I've been giving it a few spins every day, it's outstanding!! Oh yes it is!!

I must admit I wasn't sure how this album would turn out because their previous EP Clairvoyant Fortnight was just ok imo. But I did believe and got The Unravelling right away.

So until recently the album suffered from a  very low rating (about 2.5)  and one very negative review Confused . I'm not sure why but I must disagree, so are you guys as excited as I am? (I know Nogbad is Tongue)

I love the new album, it's a huge step forward from Clairvoyant Fortnight. They've got a real 8 piece band sound that Kavus has obviously written to exploit. It's pretty much been on permanent rotation in my car since I got it, it's wonderful driving music (along with the latest Chrome Hoof who share a couple of band members). It's got grooves, hooks, riffs & loads of ideas.

I don't often write reviews but I couldn't bear looking at that 2.5 rating for another day. It may end up as album of the year for me, it's certainly going to be top 5.

Can't say I've noticed muddy sound, it's certainly a lot quieter than most cd's released these days. My understanding is Bob Drake mastered it that way to avoid the current style of loudness wars. Once I turn it up it's fine.

I definitely have to turn the volume up when I put it on, but also the sound is muddy most noticeable on the drums.

That said I still love how the horns are mixed with everything else, great sounding band.
