Both were at motown and both produced a masterpiece during their carrer. Who's the best. Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder.

You probably need to clarify your question a bit.  Marvin Gaye was a noted singer who did some writing.  Wonder was somewhat of a child prodigy who wrote, sang and was a noted multi instrument talent.  Going by a somewhat generic definition of the “best”, I would say Stevie Wonder because imo he could just do more and do it at a higher level (although most would agree that Gaye was a much better singer).

It is on everything that I compare them.

I prefer Marvin - some of his albums are monstrously good.

Stevie I think is the better artist, for all the reasons dwill123 outlines, but Marvin Gaye's smaller amount of wonderful albums stand out more than Stevie's longer career (with more 'great' albums for me but less 'wonderful' ones.)

Gaye had a better voice but was not nearly as versatile as Wonder.   As a multi-instrumentalist and composer, there's not much of a comparison to my mind.  Gaye was probably the better lyricist because for every "I know that leaves are green/they only change to brown when autumn comes around", Wonder has also a few "What happens then/is one aching heart" banalities.

I find dreadpirateroberts's comment interesting because I don't remember Gaye ever having a long running streak of masterpieces like Talking Book-to-Songs in the Key of Life with the very good Music of my Mind and Hotter than July bookending it.

^ I should have been clearer Smile

What I mean to say is that while Stevie has that amazing streak and a lot of good albums, I prefer Gaye's fewer wonderful albums - for instance What's Going On and Let's Get it On in addition to the Trouble Man OST and even Here, My Dear  I enjoy more than a lot of Stevie Wonder's albums.

Marvin Gaye. Wow, what a voice - so much character.

As polls go I think you’re pretty much comparing apples to oranges.  Certainly if this is who you like then so be it but, a better comparison might have been something like Marvin Gaye compared to say Al Green or Teddy Pendergrass.  And Stevie Wonder against say Sly Stone (please just his early original group stuff) and maybe Prince.

^I don't agree with you. These were the two most profilic Motown singers that started writing their own material and became real artists, releasing "mature" masterpieces that went beyond pop and soul hits. Anyway Gaye byr far for me.

I guess Wonder.

Can't choose... I love both.

These two artists are the ones I put on(preferably one at a time though), if I'm charming the pants off women. Usually works tooSax man

Wonder has more talent, but Gaye was more enjoyable.

For overall work in the 1970s, I chose Stevie Wonder. However, I rate Marvin Gaye's album What's Going On higher than Stevie's best, and one of my personal favorites. Both are towering giants.

My two favourite soul artists.

Overall, I choose Stevie. There are so many good songs, Especially on Songs In The Key Of Life there are many great tracks, but there are also gems on Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale, Music Of My Mind...

And thus I vote for Stevie. But the best album has been made by Marvin: What's Going On.

Both fantastic singers, but Innervisions is among my favourite albums of all time, so Stevie gets the vote.

What's Going on? is so very good though..

Those are the big three soul albums from the 1970s: Wonder's Innervisions and Talking Book, and Gaye's What's Going On. I cherish all of them Smile

This is my sentiment as well. Talent is not all in art.

Wonder because he can play more instruments and has a lot  of soul. Both are great though  Smile

I concur. Innervisions is brilliant.
