I could list five Magma-albums, but that wouldn't be very interesting
Magma - St (1001 Centigrades, MDK etc...)
The Residents - Mark of the Mole (+Intermission)
Igor Wakhévitch - Docteur Faust
Yma Sumac - Legend of the Jivaro (from 1957, and possibly the first)
Gong - You (but really Camenbert-Flying Teapot-Angel's Egg-You)

I can't think of 5 Concept Albums that i actually enjoy.
I do know that Deloused in the Comatorium would top any list i would compile though.

Series Songs aren't even close to Concept Albums, especially the ones listed that appear on different albums entirely.

I haven't really heard enough concept albums to make a list--but The Dark Side of the Moon and especially Gentle Giant's The Power and the Glory are favorites of mine. Great music and well-executed concept combined.

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Gentle Giant - The Power and the Glory Gentle Giant - Free Hand (if this doesn't qualify as a concept album, substitute with The Mothers of Invention - Absolutely Free) Marillion - Misplaced Childhood Pink Floyd - Animals
An admittedly lame selection.

Do you know this particluar one? A few years ago I would have said: (In no particular order ... except for the order in which I have thought of those albums)
Yes - Tales
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Pink Floyd - Animals
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Pink Floyd - WYWH
Now I'm thinking:
Yes - Tales
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
Pink Floyd - Animals
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Genesis - SEBTP (eh ... kind of a concept album, but if you insist on a solid substution, ...)
...
Pink Floyd - DSOTM
(Not gonna go with Aqualung 'cause, as Ian said, "It's not a concept album.")
Now that we are discussing concept albums, I've just noticed that of all the major prog bands KC is probably the only one that hasn't come up with a single true concept album.

True. The closest they come IMO are Discipline, which has a unified musical philosophy, and Beat, on which most (but not all) songs are influenced by beat poetry.
I'm not very familiar with Rush's extended discography, have they ever released a full concept album?

Said nothing about prog in the title. And yes, I personally think Sufjan is very progressive.

Yes. RUSH, who is the greatest music act to come out of Canada have released a full conceptual album. Actually, RUSH's latest release 'Clockwork Angels' is a very good concept album. Check it out. Not a dissapointment
i got it a few days after its release, and i thought it was great after a few listens, but didnt know it was a concept album until like about a year later XD!!!

Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2
Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Rush - Clockwork Angels
The Who - Quadrophenia
Then I'm stuck between Thick As A Brick, Tales, Days Of Future Passed, and Si On Avait...
Also, glad to see all of the recognition Rush are getting for Clockwork Angels here! It should really appear somewhere on the top 20 heavy prog albums, and easily in my top 5 Rush albums

hmmm I don't have the time to think about it so much, but here are the ones that are coming now to my mind... (And I like them of course)...
Pink Floyd: The Wall Marillion: Misplaced Childhood Rush: 2112 (Does that count?) Genesis: The Lamb lies down on Broadway Jethro Tull: Thick as a Brick (Again, does this count?)
yes, it does. In fact, that album actually parodies concept albums, as thought of by Ian Anderson due to the confusion that "Aqualung" is a concept album. anywho, this are my picks in no particular order (as rock operas):
The Who - Tommy and Quadrophenia
Pink Floyd - The Wall
and for normal:
Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans
Rush - Clockwork Angels
Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
those are the most interesting and favorites in general for me as of now...

Saviour Machine-- Legend (pt1:1, 11:1, 111:1)
Dream Theater---Scenes Of A Memory
Queensryche---Operation Mindcrime
Cosmograf--The Man Left In Space
Clive Nolan--Alchemy (both Live and Studio Version)

1. Rick Wakeman -- Journey to the Center of the Earth
Everything that is good and bad about prog is showcased in this flamboyant live recording of the Caped One's masterpiece.
2. Pink Floyd -- The Wall
Perhaps other Floyd albums may have better musical moments, but The Wall rolls across you like a steamroller when you listen to it in it's entirety in a way that even Dark Side of the Moon does not.
3. Jethro Tull -- Thick as a Brick
What started as comment on prog's excesses quickly turned into an exemplary version of the thing itself.
4. The Who -- Tommy
Before The Wall, this was the concept album that caught everybody's attention.
5. Genesis -- The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
Peter Gabriel's weird imagination and theatricality are given free reign in the story of Rael.

True. The closest they come IMO are Discipline, which has a unified musical philosophy, and Beat, on which most (but not all) songs are influenced by beat poetry.
If it weren't for Ladies of the Road, Islands would definitely qualify.

These are all wonderful choices, although I have not heard THE WHO's TOMMY album yet. Maybe I should get on that. Anyway. Cool list.

I think "The Letters" also keeps Islands from being a concept album. Even though Lizard doesn't have a unifying musical concept, the cover artwork with an image representing each song tries to tie the individual songs into a whole. I could see stretching the definition of concept album to include ITCOTCK as each song could be interpreted as another slice of the madness evoked by the album cover...though I'm really pushing it there.
Interesting that King Crimson stand unique among the classic prog bands in that they never fell prey to the greatness (or tedious-ness depending on your POV) of the overblown concept album. Also, they were one of the few classic prog bands that closed up shop in '74 and didn't suffer the fall from grace as the other classic prog bands as they attempted to change with the times and tarnished their reputations. Fripp has this great innate sense of when "enough is enough" and pulls the plug on Crimso before they get the chance to behave badly and embarrass their legacy.

Genesis - Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - There's something very mystical and surreal about this album, it's like another world you can live in for awhile.
Pain Of Salvation - Remedy Lane - An incredibly personal and sad album
Beardfish - Sleeping In Traffic Pt. 1&2 - Why not write a concept about partying, being lazy, goofing off, and getting yourself into trouble? Just a fun and quirky album.
Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum - You can start off in a dark mood and it will bring you bit by bit all the way to peace. There's a lot of variety here.
Coheed - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness, Blah Blah Long Title - Because writing a concept album about the writer who writes the story of the other concept albums is SO META
