The debut album of a band is a hit or miss, sometimes a band begins their career with such a great debut, that they are doomed to be judged by it and hardly  ever reach this level again, in other cases is naive but cuter (Genesis) on others is way bellow their stature (Yes), but always has a special charm, please post your lists:

Here my corrected list
  1. Hybris - Anglagard
  2. In the Court ... - King Crimson
  3. Voyage of the Acolyte - Steve Hackett
  4. Six Wives of Henry the VIII .- Rick Wakeman

The first Bruford album is not in your list, BrufordFreak, or you don't think the debut is that good?
Just wondering, seeing your ID, and since the fact that I myself think it's a killer album.
(Then again, I have an Eddie Jobson avatar and I don't have Eddie Jobson's debut in my top 20; although I do have the first UK album high in my list)

Yep, and not just in prog, it's all I can bear tbh, everything else sounds like fridge buzz to me. I can listen to a few solo acts like Morricone and a few Kate Bush numbers.

It's like why drink Asda's Dr Thunder when you can have the real thing?

That's actually their second album, Utopia was released 7 years earlier in 99. Very hard to find apparently, and more for its collector value than music quality judging by the reviews.
