These are the most recent albums by two classic prog bands. Which do you think is better?

I believe in the power of King Crimson.  In this case, Yes can only fly from here.

Fly From Here isn't great but it's still better than King Crimson's recent efforts.

Frankly, 2 bands who are living on past glories and should probably have jacked it in long ago.

I've not heard the KC album, but I've noticed there's generally not much love for Fly from Here in this community, which is a shame. I think it's pretty good. Far better than some of their post 'Going for the One' efforts in my opinion. I think it marginally better than Drama too. Wasn't most of it composed around that time?

I've tried and failed to get through The Power to Believe several times now.  It was just all so predictable by the time of that album.  Fly From Here isn't that great, but at least I got through it and enjoyed it.  I'll vote for Yes.

Well said Andy, I almost totally agree (I don't think it's better than Drama).

The basis of "Fly From Here" does date back to the original Horn/Downes days. They used to perform it live and there's a version on the "The Word is Live" box set.

For me there are many albums since Going For The One that are better than  this effort. In fact it may be the worst. Not that i  hate it or anything. It's Ok Yes.

That's what I love about Yes.  Even OK Yes is still very enjoyable to me.

I'd rate it above "The Ladder", "Magnification" most of "Keys" and, although I've never heard it going by the flak it normally gets, probably "Open Your Eyes" as well.

I just love your "Recent Tracks" listing Ian. UK Subs and Mozart - there's a contrast!

A bit strange compatison. Fly from Here was a lame epigone of a past grace, whilst The Power to Believe is one of the strongest records of the decade (at least for me).

The Power to Believe by a mile. Fly From Here is very good but it doesn't touch TPTB IMO.

KC by quite a large margin.
Both of these records have that modern clean production, but whereas it compliments the snarling ferocity of TPTB, I think it flattens everything about FFH to the point of numbness.

Well, if you didn't like "The Ladder" very much, the odds are that you wouldn't like "Open you Eyes" either, they are two of a kind, as far as I remember, it's been a long time since I've listened to either one.

As far as I'm concerned, I probably like the 3 main songs that make the "Fly from Here", plus the last song of the album, better than most of what's included on "Power to Believe" (except for "Level 5", which I really love). But in the end, there's nothing more worthy for me on Yes's album, while just about the whole Crimson's one is really good, so I go with King Crimson. By the way, I guess it would be more acurate to pair "The Power to Believe" with "Magnification". And Perhaps "Fly from Here" with "A Scarcity of Miracles".

King Crimson here. Fly From Here is nothing special and rather a dissapointment to me. Hard to accept Yes without Jon.

I don't know as I would say it is not much loved.  The album has a 3.44 rating, which is actuallly pretty good.  I myself gave it 4 stars.  Not a classic, but I agree with you that it is quite a good album.

For some reason, if an album has an overall rating of 3.40 - 3.90 it's seen as not so great on this site. Generally, it means there's a lot of good ratings, and some average to bad ratings. For me, i don't generally see overall ratings as average or bad until an album is lower than 3.20

While Fly From Here is probably, for me, the best Yes album in ages, The Power To Believe wins here, no question.
I know of no other band born in the 60's that manages to not only remain relevant, but to still be avant-garde.  TPTB is among KC's finest to me (along with In The Court, and Red).
